Buying nappies on holiday?

MissAlicia1 · 20/04/2023 13:48

We are going away to Majorca for 2 weeks with our DD for the first time. I just wanted to know do people tend to take nappies with them or buy them out there?

AIBU buying them out there?

I always brought enough with me, but only because I didn’t want the hassle of hunting round the shops to find the right ones when I’m supposed to be on holiday.

barrybullshit · 20/04/2023 13:53

Take them with you. Who wants to go on holiday running around looking for nappies?

Star81 · 20/04/2023 13:54

You’ll get nappies no problem. Dodots are the brand I always used in Majorca, I used pampers in uk, very similar.

which part of Majorca are you going to ?

This was my thought but I don’t want to use up our precious suitcase space

I always took enough for a few days and then bought them out there. Who wants to take up half their suitcase with 2 weeks worth of nappies - they’re not exactly hard to find.

AlexisR · 20/04/2023 13:57

I mean, it's Majorca, so they'll obviously have nappies. They might be a different brand than you're used to but you're not exactly going off the beaten track.

Star81 · 20/04/2023 13:57

Look for Eroski supermarkets, usually fairly large and they’ll have them. Also pharmacies but they tend to be more expensive

FlounderingFruitcake · 20/04/2023 13:58

As long as you’re not staying somewhere remote without access to a car then I’d take enough for the first 2 days then buy more there. Otherwise it’s so my much in your suitcase!

red78hot · 20/04/2023 13:58

You can order from Boots to collect at the airport after check-in to avoid them filling your case. That's if the airport you're flying from has a Boots.

This is what we will probably do

Do people tend to use more on holiday if they are switching between swim nappies and their normal ones?

We took enough with us. We never need that much suitcase space for me and DH so just used 1 of the suitcases for DD's clothes/nappies/wipes.

Nevermind31 · 20/04/2023 14:01

Dodot is the brand that is most similar to Pampers, they will have it widely available in supermarkets. Spain is generally cheaper too, although touristic areas may not be.

Not really, as if the nappy i took off for swimming is clean/just a bit of wee then i just put it back on after swimming

Hintofreality · 20/04/2023 14:02

They literally sell them in every supermarket and chemists, people living in Majorca have babies as well.

dogmum93 · 20/04/2023 14:08

@MissAlicia1 I don't know where you're flying from but my local airport has a boots inside the terminal, so you can order some nappies to collect there. I think every airport I've been to in the UK has a Boots come to think of it! That way you don't have to pack them and just carry them on the plane like any other duty free. Boots at my airport opens at 4am, so most flight times will be fine! I know you can probably get them out there but if it's something you're going to stress and worry about then this might solve that so you can just enjoy your holiday!

We went to majorca last year and put the nappies in the storage bag for the car seats 😏

fairtrauchled · 20/04/2023 14:24

Not useful for OP but back in the early 1990s when my DC were in nappies we were able to check a pack of nappies into the hold.Just put some duct tape around the pack and the check in agent put a label on it.I agree with those who suggested ordering from Boots and picking them up after security.

JessieJoJames · 20/04/2023 14:27

We never took enough when we went to the US and they were a fortune - I think we paid like $15 for 24 or something and that wasn't the most expensive brand.

Ohrwurm · 20/04/2023 14:30

We took enough for a few days last summer when we went to Spain and then went to the supermarket and bought two packs.

MsBubbles85 · 20/04/2023 14:48

I'm Spanish and pampers here is the same as Dodot in Spain - they are own by the same company. I never take nappies with me when we go to Spain, for the 1st trip we took formula (tabs and premade bottles) as we use Aptamil and it is not widely available there (in Spain is Almirón but they don't sell premade) and baby was 2.5 months old. We have found other brands of premade milk there and now I don't take it anymore! I just want to travel as light as I can with a baby (not always possible)

this is what we tended to do when the kids were small, provided there was a super market close-ish to where we were staying. I used to bring 10-15 nappies and then pick up a packet.

Hugasauras · 20/04/2023 14:58

I never bring whole packs of nappies on holiday, such a waste of suitcase space! I take enough for the journey plus some spares and pick up some on arrival. They're not exactly a niche item!

I’m weird when I go on holiday, I go with 2 suitcases but come home with 1 and still have room for souvenirs. I’d rather take everything I need with me, including the kitchen sink ( I’ve regularly taken the kitchen sink bowl). I also don’t buy everything new like a lot of people, I use old clothes & shoes up and when they are done I bin them so I don’t have to take them home to wash them. Same with toiletries & makeup. I will deliberately not use something up at home so I can take it away with me to throw away rather than take anything new or full.

I’m also extremely tight and begrudge paying holiday or over the top prices for things I need, I’m a bargin and deal shopper so rather use my bargain buys. Plus when we go away it’s usually on a tight budget, I’d rather we used any holiday money on fun rather than necessities.

I have to check in luggage no matter what as I carry medical equipment with me so I could never just do cabin luggage.

I use to take 2 size suitcases and I’d fit the smaller one inside the bigger coming home. Now I use a big hold-all and fold it up and pack in in the big case.
