Would you take a 13 year old to a Michael McIntyre live show?

Im booking tickets for me and DH to see him live but my teen wants to come as he thinks he’s funny. Has anyone seen him live? Im just wondering whether his tv/dvd stuff is tamer than what he might say live

We took my DD with us when she was 13 to see him at the O2. Tickets did state 14+ and my DD looked her age and we weren't challenged. There was a few riskier jokes and the odd swear word but nothing shocking.

Ok this is good to know from someone who has been to see him live, myself and DH have never seen him live before so wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of content and whether it would be suitable for him 😊

It's says 14 for a reason act like a parent not your child's mate.

I've seen his new show and he swears a bit and he makes a few low key jokes about sex but nothing outrageous. I'd take a 13 year old. He is very good.

Ok thank you, it’s good to get some advice from people who have actually seen him live in terms of what to expect in relation to the content 😊

Hmm, just checked the tickets and it does say strictly 14+. He’s very mature for his age and people often think he’s older as he’s very tall but even if it was appropriate would they check for ID? I’m wondering if it would be a bit risky, if they ask for ID none of us could go in and then it would be £200 down the pan 🫣

I would not risk it myself, it is the 'strictly' bit, not just guidance.

You could phone to ask.

Only if I hated said 13 year old.

He would be 13 and a half at the time of the show so what difference would a few months make really? It’s not like I’m planning to take a 7/8 year old. He’s at the age now where he wants to spend more time with his mates than his parents so when he said he would like to see him live I thought it would be a great opportunity to spend some family time together seeing some comedy. I’m not trying to act like his mate, I’m a responsible parent. If I wasn’t why would I even bother seeking advice about whether this show would be appropriate for a teen?

Yes perhaps if I can find a number for the venue I could check as he would be 13 1/2 at the time of the show

We took our 13yo to see Jack Whitehall, they didn't check ID. I told him to just quietly walk through and not draw attention to himself, he promptly managed to get his coat caught on the railings they had separating the queue and pulled the whole lot over 😂

edwinbear · 19/04/2023 23:41

Yes I would - also seen him twice and also saw him in a small venue last summer, where he was testing material for this show. I have a 13yr old DS and he would be fine with it. By this age, there are few swear words they’ve not already heard. He was superb in the summer btw I’m sure it will be a great show.

BrownSauceOnBeans · 11/02/2024 19:32

Did they ask for id? If so what?

StrawberryJellyBelly · 11/02/2024 19:53

I’ve seen him live and the second part of the show was for adults and not suitable for a 13 year old.

Vgbeat · 11/02/2024 20:06

I am. My daughter will be 13.5 and it's her first comedy show she loves him and will pass easily for 14. He's not my choice but then again I'm going to Rhod Ghilbert in a couple of months and she is definitely not allowed to come to that

BobbyBiscuits · 11/02/2024 20:16

TBH I think the door staff will be busy managing the flow and stuff, unless he literally looked about 5 I very much doubt they'd check his ID. I mean do children even routinely carry photo ID? If he has no passport why would he even own any? He's with his parents as well. If there were loads of kids arriving alone maybe it would be an issue but not in your case.
