To ask for an alternative to Central London prices!

From up North! Want to spend 2 - 3 nights in London (or close by). Just checking out prices and even for Premier Inn these have tripled in cost to what we usually pay. We need 2 rooms as 3 adults and 1 teen. Not bothered about staying bang in the centre anywhere within easy commute would be fine. Have no idea where to consider. Areas with local restaurants/bars (family) would be a bonus then we could travel into the centre to do day stuff. Help please!

What are you planning to do in London? But in general areas in Zone 2/3 that are relatively easy to get into town from and may be cheaper are Paddington, Maida Vale, Kilburn, Finchley Road/Swiss Cottage, Golders Green, Camden. They're all North/NW London though.

Basically choose a few central London tube lines (e.g. Bakerloo, Jubilee) and look at the stations on them in Zones 2 and 3.

When I do London weekends, I tend to stay at the Premier Inn Croydon Central. It's right by east Croydon station so 15 mins to Victoria or London Bridge, and significantly cheaper than central hotels (eg recently booked a 2 night weekend in June for under £200)

Bromley premier
16 mins to victoria station across the road
cinema / Nando’s / pizza express onsite
shopping centre with restaurants up the road

Wimbledon?

AntiHop · 18/04/2023 21:52

Stratford. Great transport links and plenty of places to eat

gogohmm · 18/04/2023 21:52

I've used the travelodge at King's Cross a couple of times recently and it was under £100 a night

1990s · 18/04/2023 21:53

Brixton Premier Inn. 7 mins on Victoria line to Victoria, 20 to Kings Cross.

skippy67 · 18/04/2023 21:55

Another vote for Premier Inn in Bromley. 2 mins walk from Bromley south Station. Fast trains to Victoria 16 mins journey time.

When are you planning to come to London, and are you flexible on those dates? There was another post recently where a poster was trying to book accommodation in London this weekend, so the prices were obviously insane (it's the London Marathon, so everything's been booked out way in advance and is more expensive).

Doveyouknow · 18/04/2023 22:00

Stratford is often cheaper and there are lots of places to eat in Westfield and the park.

Romford?
Elizabeth Line for easy access to Liverpool Street, Tottenham Court Road, Paddington etc.
Good selection of family friendly restaurants (PizzaExpress, TGIs, Turtle Bay, Nandos to name a few), pubs, bowling alley, cinema, swimming pool, ice rink...

Premier In prices have shot up in the past 12 months.

Have a look at IBIS. There is one in Ealing, not too far from tube/Elizabeth Line

Apologies. Here is the link

Queen's Park, Maida Vale, Hammersmith (there are a lot of hotels on Shepherd's Bush Road).

Agree!

Have you considered the London YHA youth hostels? Not just for the youth and the London ones are really nice now. We’ve always stayed in a family room.

A reasonable hotel I’ve stayed (pre-covid) is The Tavistock hotel.

If you do plan to travel in, maybe be worth considering the Network railcard to reduce prices.

Houseplantmad · 18/04/2023 22:09

Premier Inn Woolwich? It’s in the Elizabeth line.

tallcypowder · 18/04/2023 22:13

Hanger lane premier inn is right by the tube. Not the best area but great next to tube.

ShoesEverywhere · 18/04/2023 22:14

YHA central London is great. We walked everywhere from there last summer.

MerylSqueak · 18/04/2023 22:15

I like the Hampstead Heath Premier Inn which is really in Belsize Park. Zone 2. 5 mins from tube. Nice and quiet at night. Cafes for breakfast and a Budgens to stock up on picnic stuff for the day.

Sorry to hijack, but if anyone can recommend places commutable for a gig in Brixton I'd also appreciate it! Brixton premier Inn is mentioned above but it was £400-500 for two nights and the gig is next year 😧

AnnaMagnani · 18/04/2023 22:17

Travelodge is a lot cheaper than Premier Inn.

Have a look at Acton and Wembley - near tube stations so easy to get in but much cheaper than more central choices.

Lesina · 18/04/2023 22:18

Budget? I recommend the Premier Inn Canning Town. Really well connected to central London and a mere 150 metres away from the tube. It’s a grand spot.

Maybe try the Travellodge or Premier Inn near Clapham Junction station
