… to think this is wrong? Teacher’s blog slagging off school!

Sallycantwaitnoel · 18/04/2023 20:16

A teacher at DCs’ school has her own personal lifestyle blog. Only realized today as something I was looking at for work (similar fields) led me to her pages. OMG! Literally a picture of the grim reaper and her description of the last toxic year she’s spent under crap leadership, she’s got to get out, blah blah blah. It’s all there in the open under her own name. Definitely her as she has pictures of her with family on there too. AIBU to think this is the height of unprofessional? And do I pass the info on to the school?

Yes and Yes!

TempNCforthis · 18/04/2023 20:18

I would email her with a screenshot of it and say you want to make sure she realises it's public.

I wouldn't tell her headteacher.

LysHastighed · 18/04/2023 20:20

In your shoes I probably wouldn’t want to get involved but then I would contact the school anyway because her judgement is clearly lacking and she might put information about a child up there.

I'm not a teacher but in my industry doing something like this would mean dismissal.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 18/04/2023 20:22

Wow!! Well that is very very very stupid of her 😄 definitely report it.

shutthewindownow · 18/04/2023 20:24

I'm sure she would be in breach of her contract for doing this. It is t allowed at my school

sunshineonleven · 18/04/2023 20:24

What an idiot. To be honest I wouldn't actually report it, chances are it is true with the state of schools these days, but would massively judge her. It's astonishes me what bad judgment people can have. Plenty places to rant anonymously or with friends. Some schools run social media checks before employment too so she's only harming herself.

I have known two people (neither teachers) who actually were sacked for this. In fact I was the "prisoner's friend" at the disciplinary hearing of one of them.

Before you tell the school OP, you might want to bear that in mind.

LolaSmiles · 18/04/2023 20:28

She's been very foolish, it's unprofessional and she should not have done it.
Whether I'd report would depend on what's said.

If she's moaning about general work things, the school isn't named, no colleagues are named and there's no discussion or anecdotes about children, I'd probably not report. If the head sees the posts she'll know that it refers to their school and the teacher will understandably go through disciplinary for their conduct online. Honestly, I'd probably not be inclined to specifically send a copy to school.

If the school was named, colleagues were named, and there was anything about the children then I would 100% report with screenshots

Sallycantwaitnoel · 18/04/2023 20:28

For all I know, the school knows about it already. One of those where you do a double take and think - wait, what?! The irony is that she markets herself as an accomplished leader and essentially says she could have done better. Very clearly over estimating her abilities!

I think this is the height of unprofessionalism. I am unsure whether I would tell the headteacher or her.
Is she teaching your children? Will she be teaching them in the future? Do you think highly of the school? Do your children enjoy it there? No issues? Because if my child was having issues, after reading this blog I think I would be seriously thinking of moving them.

PuffinsRocks · 18/04/2023 20:29

Do you think she might have done it on purpose in the hope someone reports her so she can be pushed instead of having to jump?

Snoopyandthemuppets · 18/04/2023 20:30

This is automatic dismissal - please tell her

Is that a thing? People would prefer to be sacked then resign themselves from a position?!

I am a teacher and the same is true for us. It would be considered gross misconduct.

TheHoover · 18/04/2023 20:33
  • Snoopyandthemuppets · Today 20:30 This is automatic dismissal - please tell her* nonsense. instead, tell her she may be in serious breach of the school social media policy. If the school doesn’t have one, disciplinary action will be more problematic.
eatdrinkandbemerry · 18/04/2023 20:33

If I didn't like her I'd send it straight to the headteacher 🤷‍♀️

DedicatedFollowerOfFashion84 · 18/04/2023 20:37

Is it because she holds those views or because she does so publicly in her own name? It’s grossly inappropriate, and a fucking stupid thing to do if she wants to keep her own job but what do you gain from telling the school? Is she known to be a shit teacher? Is she a risk to the children?

dootball · 18/04/2023 20:38

Has she written the truth ?

Sallycantwaitnoel · 18/04/2023 20:40

Doesn’t teach mine but could do next year, who knows? It’s just so stupid really, why would you do that? To answer a pp, there are no names mentioned BUT a quick Google of her name and the region reveals the name of the school. The posts are dated over the last couple of years and she specifically refers to issues with poor SMT stuff and a nasty working culture ‘over the last year’. Then there’s loads of ‘hun’ bollocks about rising above it and being her best self and the best of the bunch will move on and leave as they’re worth more etc. She clearly counts herself within this. I’m actually astonished at her daftness.

Sallycantwaitnoel · 18/04/2023 20:42

@DedicatedFollowerOfFashion84 - shows quite a lack of judgement to me!

@dootball - the truth? I can’t say. There have been some issues but I’d say she was actually one of the weaker links. There are some excellent staff members, nice enough head, great deputy (IMO).

It would for a teacher too, she's very stupid if she has actually done this.

Punkyspunky · 18/04/2023 20:52

Stupid woman!
She is showing an astounding lack of judgement. I was a member of SLT in a past life and she is certainly risking her job. Report her. A person this stupid could be making other poor judgements which place the well-being of students at risk.
All schools have safeguarding training at least annually, and often much more often. At the very least she needs to get some additional training.
