I applied for a role for which I am extremely qualified for but got no responses ,not even a shortlist! The job was advertised again a few weeks later but I left it. This morning now it’s advertised again! What shall I do? It will make a change to my life as it’s nearer, and staff are lovely, it’s a very nurturing environment and not toxic like other places I’ve worked in. What shall I do? I didn’t even get a response last time and I know my CV is very strong. What shall I do - send my CV in again?

How do you know staff are lovely and what the environment is like etc? Do you know someone who works there?

Also, did you follow the proper channels for applying? Eg if it was advertised through an agency did you apply through the agency or just send your cv directly?

batsandeggs · 18/04/2023 10:11

Contact them directly and ask.

ComtesseDeSpair · 18/04/2023 10:15

I’d contact HR and ask whether you need to apply again or whether having not been shortlisted before means they wouldn’t consider a reapplication.

However, if you weren’t even shortlisted, it would seem that either your application wasn’t as strong as you thought, you didn’t adequately line up your skills and experience to the job specification, or you missed something out. Do you have a friend or colleague with a relevant background who could go through your CV / application and give you some constructive advice?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 18/04/2023 10:16

Don't just resend the CV, it didn't pass the sift last time so you need to be critical and take another pass at it.

If you print the job description/person spec can you honestly say that the recruiter could match your CV to all of the requirements on the JD without having to make any assumptions and fill out your experience?

CleaningOutMyCloset · 18/04/2023 10:16

Is it via an agency, directly to HR or is it an internal move?

rattymol · 18/04/2023 10:39

Is it a minimum wage rolling recruitment job? They just keep your cv until someone leaves as turnover is so high.

It’s a school job. They’re desperate for my subject as over 8 other schools looking for same subject teacher. I got my English teacher friend to look it over and she made it amazing! It’s a technical subject and I worked in industry for lots of years so I am experienced plus I was head of department so have real life experience and teaching. I get schools contacting me all the time, I’m so confused. I’m doing supply at the moment in another school and got offered the job permanently straight away but school is a long commute.

I was getting nearly triple in industry but decided to work in a school because of my children. I’m very surprised they are not shortlisting me. My mind is going places it shouldn’t be lol!

I’m not a teacher and don’t know quite how teacher job applications work so maybe this isn’t useful advice; but in your position I would email the headteacher or business manager asking for further information about the role and whether there are any particular features of the role or the school which it would be useful for potential candidates to know about. This will help you address anything you might have missed out in your application the first time around which meant you weren’t shortlisted.

How long have you been a teacher? It sounds as though you’re relatively new having come to it from industry? Perhaps they’re looking for somebody with more teaching experience?

This might sound strange but are you sure they received your application? I do school governance and am always stunned by how many block Gmail. It's always worth ringing to check.
