This is crazy , but my mum and Grandma both had VW beetles. This one is for sale near me. I'm trying to convince myself that I will buy it for an investment.
Yes, I can afford it. No, I can't really as it's about a years worth of food spent.

To buy this car?

Well ta again all. You are all very sensible , just like 2 of my children ( the other one is bonkers like me and suggested I get a Holden Maloo ute instead) . Selling at 70-100KAU for the cheapest I can find up to $1millionAU for the rare one( they only made 4 of that one). Believe me I can't afford any of them. Am toddling off to bed feeling very righteous. ( and sad) at not buying that lovely car. x

For Oz I think you need asbestos exam on any import too..

I have a vintage car, I hope to not loose too much money on it but really love it, maintenance about £1-2k per year plus big costs like engine rebult 6 years ago that was a bit ouchy.

Are you confusing the term 'vintage' with 'antique'?

Me? No, vintage vehicles are specifically defined as being manufactured between 1919 and 1930.

I didn't know that! That's so odd that in the world of cars, antiques are newer than vintage.

Ta for this. Are you an economist? My economist son said " geez mum buy shares It's less trouble and less risk".
I think you have all talked me out of it.
Such a gorgeous car though. ( sad face with tears).

Not an economist but years of living with a classic/vintage car collector. Buy it if you love it and either are prepared to learn how to maintain it or know someone who does and you’ve got lots of spare cash but don’t buy it as an investment it may not depreciate if you look after it but it’s unlikely to appreciate.

Never heard a car called Antique in the UK - perhaps that's a US thing?

HomelessAngua · 19/04/2023 13:23

Yep - USA thing..
