Not to understand the link between snooker and oil?

Or are they just doing anything they can to get the message out?
Seems unfair.
Football doesn't get protested.
Formula 1, maybe in the past.
Are they just going for easy targets. Best exposure they can hope for?
I really don't think they will change any minds at the snooker.
I don't understand why they do it.
I understand the message and actually do support it. But it's not individuals they need to convince. Its business, and political parties.
If anything it will put people off voting Green, as it will be linked to these people.

Surely it's just about live television being invaded, just like the Grand National or when BBC News was interrupted years ago.

Elvis1956 · 18/04/2023 07:04

Football has been targeted people tied themselves to goal posts with zip ties.

You have to ask how they got to Sheffield. I bet they didn't walk. It's like a few years ago they blocked the roads using a boat..towed there by a fuck off old 4x4

Tarantullah · 18/04/2023 07:08

Its scary how lax security is though, what if it had been someone intending to inflict harm on the snooker players? Also not sure, all about attention though isn't it and a sense of entitlement.

Willmafrockfit · 18/04/2023 07:09

just trying to get themselves noticed.
as at the art gallery

crazy

The Grand National protests were more about animal welfare at that event not just invading to get themselves on TV to raise awareness. I think with three horses dying, there's a more obvious connection to the cause they are protesting and questions do need to be raised.

Ponoka7 · 18/04/2023 07:21

Sport reaches all sectors of society etc. They want sporting events on board with getting climate change/animal abuse/fossil fuel etc messages out there. I can remember not agreeing with insulate Britain, as didn't the press/politicians etc then within twelve months they were calling to insulate Britain because of the COL and the lack of Russian coal etc. Before we dismiss their message, we have been fucked over again and again by this government and time to act isn't something that we will get back.

Pootles34 · 18/04/2023 07:21

It'll just be the sport with least security. Football and F1 will both have loads. All about getting on the news -and it's worked, here we are talking about it. I certainly know nothing about snooker but I knew what you were talking about.

There isn’t one. The ‘protestors’ are just hobbyists with nothing else to do on a Monday. I mean it’s not like they need to work. They are either well healed class types or the unwashed squalor living types.

These pathetic virtue signallers are dense, as most ‘progressives’ usually are. This country is responsible for less than 1% of global emissions. Funny how none of them would ever protest against China, even better in China.

UmbilicusSuperficialis · 18/04/2023 07:46

What’s your view on gun control @sst1234

W0tnow · 18/04/2023 07:47

I’m always surprised that people actually watch snooker.

Great point. They should choose a sport with a heavy Chinese presence that many people in China might watch.

Like snooker.

There isn't one - I think you're right, op. There was that idiot who tried to tie himself to the goalpost at Everton, however.

I'm someone who actually really cares about environmental issues and think that, broadly speaking, these people make a good point. Last night's actions made me want to get in my car and go for a drive. It was criminal damage and I hope that the two clowns responsible are made an example of. The irony of the fact that the orange chalk was contained in a single use plastic bag wasn't lost on me either.

One of the players afterwards referenced the security in his interview, too. They could have been put at serious risk of harm.

I also worry that this action, although two separate groups, undermines the necessary conversation about the grand national and safety in horse racing.

You're joking, right?!

You think the Chinese state media televised the protest and anyone in China has actually been able to see it? 😂Even if they did, you reckon the average Joe on the street in Beijing can influence the government's policy on carbon emissions?

BenCoopersSupportWren · 18/04/2023 08:24

I’m pretty environmentally aware and do my bit in my small way, I eat at least 80% veggie/vegan, I love animals and have volunteered in animal rescue for many years…but activists like this make me want to ride a calf round the Grand National course, then light the biggest coal-fuelled fire known to man and roast the calf for dinner. I don’t know why they get my back up so much, I’m the open door they should be pushing against, but they have the opposite effect to the one they want.

Why is that surprising? Snooker is very popular, not high profile tv like it once wss but still widely followed

W0tnow · 18/04/2023 17:46

🤷‍♀️ It’s up there with watching badminton or table tennis or drinking sarsaparilla. I’m sure people do it, but I don’t know any.
