Sharing baby purchases we regret, like our nuna pushchair

Posting for traffic.

I absolutely regret buying our nuna mixx next pushchair. I wish I could go back in time and pick a better pushchair. I'm convinced that almost any other pushchair is better. We've since bought another pushchair that's miles better, and shows exactly how bad the nuna is.

Theres no returning it so ive got to just live with how dysfunctional this nuna pushchair is. Now when I go to John Lewis I urge anyone I see looking at a nuna pushchair not to buy it.

So this is my digital version of that.

Below is a long account of why I dislike our pushchair so very much. Please read it if you're thinking of getting one. If not then feel free to skip and just share your baby buying regrets.

Reasons why I dislike my pushchair:

  1. You can only adjust the straps behind the child, instead of being able to make adjustments to the straps while they're on the child like any normal, not brain dead pushchair design.

This means you have to take the child out of the pushchair anytime you want to make the straps looser or tighter, then put them back in and then if you didn't make the right adjustments the first time round you go through the whole process again.

And the reason you need to adjust so much? Because the straps get a lot tighter when you move the chair from upright to a more flat position (ie for a nap). So anytime your baby wants to nap you've got to go through this whole malarkey. Once you're through, baby is probably not nice and sleepy anymore.

  1. The footrest is comically useless. It's so flimsy, it doesn't stay in a horizontal position (for naps for instance). It's also a lot shorter than many other pushchair footrests. Our 7 month old has almost outgrown it.
  1. The nuna pushchair looks nice and well made but ours creaks and seems to veer all over the place. It corners really badly.
  1. You cant use the nuna raincover on the pushchair if the chair is in any other position except upright. It's been a rainy few weeks and ive felt chained to the house because I can't do something as simple as recline the seat with the raincover on. I'm biting the bullet and ordering a universal cover from amazon - but really, the actual nuna cover should fit.

That's so weird @Bookshipper I have the Nuna mixx next and it's nothing like you described.

I can adjust the straps with DS already strapped in and they don't move when we move the seat down etc. DS is now 2 (almost 3) and is still pretty comfortable in it, even when napping.

I describe it like a tank of a stroller, it takes everything that's thrown at it! We also have the yo-yo and that's so flimsy! I feel it's going to tip over all the time.

Have you spoken to Nuna? They sent us a free rain cover when we lost ours on holiday! They customer service was brilliant. We also had the Nuna pippa car seat which I liked too.

CanofCant · 17/04/2023 16:58

Yeah, I've had two and they're fine.

SugarCraving · 17/04/2023 17:02

I had loads of things I brought and later regretted. One was a baby bath as we always bathed the baby in the kitchen sink! Our kitchen was warm and its was a lot of hassle carrying water to the baby bath. Our friends put their baby bath inside the family bath. I would have just used the family bath,

googledidnthelp · 17/04/2023 17:08

Regret buying Axkid move baby seat. So adamant about RF and looked up the best affordable options.

Our then 14 month old screamed all the way home after the shop fitted it for us. This happened every journey and twice ended in vomit before we got a chance to stop. Within a week it was taken out and discarded in a heap in the garage.

I later read it is very upright in some cars and no wedge can help with tilt.

I do keep meaning to try it again nearly 6 months later but I would much rather have not bought it at all and I'm so worried he will hate it just as much still

Tisfortired · 17/04/2023 17:10

It’s pretty and I was so happy when we bought it but the Snuz Baskit has been a big fat waste of £100 so far, DS spent possibly an hour in it tops in 4 months. That’s it really - we really scaled back the baby purchases this time round.

Ladybirdlashes · 17/04/2023 17:24

I have the Nuna Mixx and I also don’t have any of the issues you describe! Mine is the original Mixx not the Next but has been well used for two children and is still in really good condition, I recently noticed it even still has the little hairs on the tyres making it look brand new even though it’s 4 years old and has had heavy use.
The raincover I do find slightly annoying, I can have it on reclined fine but it fits best when the hood is pulled right out and then I find I can’t see baby very well.

fairgame84 · 17/04/2023 17:30

My Noordi Sole pram. I loved it when I was using the carrycot attachment. I hate it now we're on the pushchair attachment. I wish we'd picked a different pram. I can't afford another so I'm stuck with it.

Mycatisalwaysangry · 17/04/2023 17:34

I know someone who calls her child’s vulva ‘nuna’ when she talks to her 🤣🤣

SouthLondonMum22 · 17/04/2023 17:48

Muslins - bought loads and I just don't need them, DS is 4 months and not a sicky baby at all.

Baby carrier - DS hates it and I feel awkward wearing it.

Tisfortired · 17/04/2023 18:10

@SouthLondonMum22 see I couldn’t live without the carrier and hundreds of muslins around the house 🤣

Alarae · 17/04/2023 18:36

It was a battery powered swing- bought it hoping it would help DD nap and she hated it! Ended up selling it for £10 when we bought for £50 after using it twice!

IAmTheWalrus85 · 17/04/2023 18:48

My biggest regret was an expensive changing bag with insulated pockets for bottles and other bells and whistles.

I didn’t need the insulated pockets. A normal backpack for £9.99 would have been just as good. In fact, probably better - it was an infuriating bag because you couldn’t open and close it with one hand which is less than ideal when you’ve got to keep one hand on a wriggly baby on a changing table.

AgentJohnson · 17/04/2023 18:48

Grrr, the three wheeled Easy Walker pushchair, aka the tank. It was not very handy on public transport and I relied upon public transport. Bottle warmer, used it once and didn’t have the patience after that. Playpen, they are ubiquitous in the Netherlands and I felt societal pressure to have one but it took up too much space and wasn’t used past four months. Do not get me started on the pram attachment to the Easy Walker, it cost us 75 euros every time we used it because we only used it four times. There was bucket like baby bath that was supposedly ergonomic but I dare not bath DD on my own because I need two pairs of arms to stop her drowning in the flippin thing.

Thanks OP, I’ve been holding that in for 15 years.

If I was do it all over again I would buy shit when I needed it.

WishIwasElsa · 17/04/2023 18:53

@SouthLondonMum22

Muslins are amazing for cleaning with though !

uptheantrimcoast · 17/04/2023 18:53

I had a Nuna Mixx Next and I absolutely loved it. Everything about it. I would recommend it to anyone and so don't recognise the points in your post at all.

I've sold the Nuna and got a double ready for my imminent new arrival and I honestly miss the Nuna. It was made of premium materials and still looked brand new when I sold it. My new one by comparison, a Bugaboo Donkey 5, is so scratched already!

potatowhale · 17/04/2023 18:56

A plastic baby bath much better to get a seat in your actual bath

baloosbaloos · 17/04/2023 19:00

The bugaboo bee 6. Too heavy for the tube, too flimsy for dog walking, no storage, can’t access the basket from the front, feels weird and flimsy, too many bits, the carrycot attachment is shit (although the little cocoon thing is better). Sold it after a couple of months and bought an Uppababy Cruz v2 and I LOVE it. Use the sling for the tube. HATED the bee so much. I actually feel a bit angry when I see other people pushing one.

I LOVED my plastic baby bath - we used the shnuggle one and my baby used it to 11 months! We've since bought a "baby dam" so he can go in the main bath. I hate the waste of water filling a bath just for him (and the gas!! 🤦‍♂️)

My biggest waste(s) of money were the snuzpod (160 down the drain - he used it maybe 3 times) and the moses basket..

@googledidnthelp I have the Axkid Move and love it. We have mirrors on the headrests so the kids can see us, is that something you could try?

theblackradiator · 17/04/2023 19:12

I've not used a pram for a good few years now as my youngest is now 10. But this thread made me think about my prams which I absolutely loved which was the original Maxi-cosi Loola. (previously called the Bebe confort Loola) i had the Bebe confort version for dc1 now age 15. Bloody loved that pram and i used it in parent facing mode so I could talk to my little one on our walks.

I like my bee6 - although I do recognise some of what you're saying. We have 3 pushchairs, it's part of the arsenal. It has a place.

What I like is the hood is enormous so great for summer
The seat is really roomy
It reclines right back my baby slept really well in it
It has a tonne of accessories bags that clip on etc which I find really useful

For rough terrain, absolutely it's not ideal and for jumping on and off the tube- also not great.

It's a general all rounder though and sturdier/bigger than something like a yoyo or butterfly. I tried my 2yr old in the yoyo and he was too big for it even then. We take the bee on holiday as although it's not like the butterfly it's still lightweight enough to check it in at the gate.

The uppababy is a great pram though. If you need something small for the tube and able to handle rough terrain you can't beat the Cruz. It's a good choice.

We have an all terrain pram too because I'm walking through muddy fields daily, but I find that too much for general shopping and lugging in and out of the car.

Don't feel angry for me though! I like my bee! Haha.

My purchases that pretty much never got used:

Door bouncer
Baby Bjorn carrier
Baby bath

PippaF2 · 17/04/2023 19:20

A purchase I regret - the carrier the ergobaby 360 one

Barely used it. I bought it while pregnant convinced I would be wearing it everyday! I found it really complicated and not easy to put on at all.

I did have another ergobaby one the embrace - quite a soft one. Used that more.

I wish now I'd just waited until I had my first and then made a decision about carriers. Or just bought second hand. It was a real waste of money - for me.

I see loads of Mum's using them, so I'm pretty sure this was just a me and my bad back issue.

ArtichokeAardvark · 17/04/2023 19:24

Lascal buggy board. Didn't use it once. It was useless off-road so no good for dog walks, and as we went into lockdown the month after DD was born my opportunities for popping to the shops with baby and toddler in tow were zilch. By the time shops reopened DS was a good enough walker not to need it anyway.

DidyouNO · 17/04/2023 19:32

I read 'Emma's diary' when I was pregnant with my first and it listed baby essentials. We went out and diligently bought all on the list including a lidded plastic bucket. I had no idea why we needed it, we never used it and moved house over and over again with it(army). Had it for years and years!!
I know realise it's for soaking washable nappies and such in 😂
