How the f do I get WiFi in my bedroom???!

Old stone cottage. Good WiFi everywhere except my bedroom. Bought a firestick for my bedroom TV and of course it doesn't work as there's zero connection. Bought a TP powerline adapter thing, plugged it in, paired it then realised it was designed for ethernet cables not wireless. Help. My brain has turned to sponge.

Google / BT and others do WIFI networks that create a mesh system in your house. Sort of boosts the network all over the house.

What about an actual ethernet cable to hardwire the TV into the router?

Moonchild18 · 17/04/2023 00:07

I second using a mesh system. We have a TP Link one and it works really well

If the walls are thick, you're still going to have some issues with a mesh system - it won't solve all the problems.

The obvious (and easiest) solution is to get a wifi bridge - basically plugs into an ethernet port (as you have on the powerline adapter) and acts as a wireless access point.

Most cheap wifi extenders can run in this mode - you can pick them up on Amazon for about £25. Just check that it has an ethernet port (preferably gigabit), and you're golden.

Can't you just run an ethernet cable from the powerline into a WiFi extender or something like that?

EllandRd · 17/04/2023 00:32

Ask them to put another port in the bedroom

My bedroom was the only room which dropped WiFi so we bought a booster, plugged it into the nearest "good" plug upstairs and I've had no problems since. Something basic like this

Plug another wifi router into the Powerline adapter using an Ethernet cable. We've done that before in a large apartment and it worked really well.

TP Link mesh system. This allowed us to have full wifi across our half acre property including through concrete walls

Could I? That sounds good.

Thats good to hear!

If its recently bought will the shop take it back as it didnt work as expected? Even if you only get a credit note back it might be worth it.

AreweCf · 17/04/2023 15:55

Move the router to your bedroom

No, because in his infinite wisdom dh tore up and recycled the box.
