What is biting me? (Photos)

Hi folks. Posting in AIBU for traffic. I've had bites coming up for the past 5 days and treating my home for fleas (have a cat) although no sign of them. I'm now worried these could be bed Bug bites and I'm feeling ill. I haven't been anywhere overnight for over a year. If anyone has had bed bugs or flea bites could you say what these might be?

It worked for me. I was being eaten alive for a couple of weeks and after getting a sealed bed bug cover they never bit me again, so whatever was biting me definitely got trapped inside that sealed plastic cover 🙌

I'm genuinely pleased but I think you got lucky.

We had them on two beds. The worst bed they were just on the bed frame, the other they were on both the frame and the mattress.

I definitely think the psychological side is worse...I was like a woman possessed trying to find evidence when I thought we had them!

Yes, I don't know what it is about them but it feels much worse than fleas or headlice.

Very much look like flea bites (I've been unlucky enough to have bites from fleas, bedbugs and scabies in the past) - make sure you get the cat the next anti-flea treatment from the vet as it works better.

When I worked in prisons I got bitten by fleas from a carpet and the bites on my legs looked very similar to yours.
Mine were itchy!

Contemplating using spare bedding and sleeping on my couch tonight.

If you can at all bear it it's best to stay in your own bed.

You still don't know if you have them and you've seen no evidence, but if you do have them then if you move, they will too. Then you'll have them in two places.

Sometimes the local council will come out for a fixed charge to inspect the property and identify the cause for you. It's very difficult to treat anything if you don't know exactly what type of bug you're treating as different bugs need to be treated in different ways or with different chemicals. Where I am it is the environmental health department who do this. My council have a list of the fees on their website and most of them you can also pay for treatment once the problem is diagnosed and often cheaper than private pest companies.

Looks a bit like bed bugs. Though bed bugs normally have 3 bites close together.

I've had bed bug bites before and they were incredibly itchy! Are your v itchy?

purpledalmation · 16/04/2023 22:09

Cat fleas?

Beachy77 · 16/04/2023 22:33

@LangClegsInSpace thanks again, I'm sorry you know so much as you had them before. I will give it a go.

@IamSuperTired and others who mentioned it, yes the ones on my legs are itchy. I take antihistamines daily anyway so maybe not as bad as they could be.

I think for the sake of peace of mind I need to get someone out to have a look I can't be so preoccupied all the time. Back at work on Tuesday after a week off and I have things to prepare.

If you are prone to allergies, it could be that too. My "bites" turned out to be a reaction to a new body wash. Went away when I changed brand.

Hello, wee update. I ended up getting someone in to check and just before rhey arrived I saw something jumping. He did the investigation anyway. No sign at all of bed bugs so it was fleas but not an awful lot as I seem to have dealt with them by using indorex. It is so nice to sleep soundly again!

Thanks so much for all the advice and messages of support. I can't quite believe how much it took over my brain and time.

Phew! So pleased you've got it sorted and it wasn't the dreaded bedbugs.

gamerchick · 21/04/2023 21:25

Just an FYI. Now you've had fleas you'll probably have to treat the house every 12 months. Personally I don't think indorex lasts more than 10. So do every room from that count

JunieJay · 21/04/2023 21:31

Oh that's good news...not about fleas but so much better (and easier to deal with) than bed bugs! You will sleep easy now!! 😴
