To complain about cleanliness of holiday cottage

I'm not house proud by any stretch of the imagination, but I expect a cottage to be a certain level of clean.

The cottage is lovely, and very comfy! But...cobwebs hanging off the ceiling, red wine stains on the wooden floor (easily wiped off so it clearly hasn't been mopped) dubious stains on the underside of the loo seat...crumbs on the rug. The beds and towels are all clean which is the main thing but would you complain/comment?

I've let them know, they've emailed and asked if I want the cleaners to come round but tbh I don't want them coming in while we're here. Hopefully they'll give it a spring clean and the next people to stay will have a sparkling clean cottage!

Not quite the same but recently had a break in a cottage where previous guests had
A. Not informed owners they were bringing dogs
B. Had let dogs lay on sofas
C. Had checked out 2 hours late and were leaving when cleaners arrived.

Owners contacted us and apologised. When we arrived it stank of dogs and we let them know. They asked if we were planning any full days out and if so, could they do a deep clean during that absence.
They also offered us a partial refund.

In tthis case it wasn't that the cleaners skimped, but that previous guests had ignored the letting rules.

Fairplay Op 👍

Did they offer any explanation why it wasn't clean for you?

Could they come in whilst you are out?

Let owners know the facts and ask for it to be put right.
Most reasonable caring property owners would be mortified that the cleaners had let them down and want to be given the opportunity to put rectify the faults. Better than a slagging off review which can cause much harm to a business.

Yes I would complain as they likely have an external cleaning company to do the turn over and the owners might not know. The next guests might not be as diplomatic as you and leave them a nasty review which hurts their business which would be unfair as in their minds they've done the right thing in hiring a company to clean.

I've has to clean every holiday let we've used (bar one) I don't think the people who run or clean these places care!

In all honesty it's more about making them aware so they can have words with the cleaner, it's just not good enough and they're clearly slacking off and doing the bare minimum.

Great work OP. The cleaner must be disciplined.
