Am I just being horribly ungrateful?

So sort of light-hearted/first world problem but anyway...

Set up for making dinner at ours is I tend to make dinner all week (I work part time and look after our young DC at home two days a week) and my husband who works full time makes dinner at the weekends.

My annoyance is that he cannot seem to make it without using every SINGLE utensil in the kitchen and leaving it looking like a tornado has hit once he's finished.

Id honestly rather just make dinner myself!! I hate it. He acts like it's a massive achievement that he's cooked a meal and just leaves it like an absolute shit tip when we are done and goes and puts his feet up.

Whoever cooks also cleans the kitchen in this house.

I think you spend too much time in the house on your own with not much else to do but clean up utensils so someone moving them completely overshadows their achievement.

My dp cant even make a coffee without making an absolute mess. Thankfully I like cooking so it's not much of an issue as I tend to do it and he picks up other housework and helps me keep on top of the dishwasher. I think the pp saying you should both just clean up after yourselves might be the best advice

Weird flex.

Same in my house. DC’s and I refuse to clean up after DH has cooked, he just gets on with it himself now.

Maybe I'm being dense here but I don't understand if the OP's issue is him making a mess while cooking per se or if its him making a mess while cooking and not cleaning it up.

I couldn't get very excited about someone being a messy cook if they clean up after themselves. People cook the way they cook and other people trying to control that is unreasonable micromanagement.

If, however, he cooks and then doesn't clean up he is indeed being a dickhead. Don't clean up after him.
