To put a tv up myself or call a professional?

Is this something you could do yourself by watching a few YouTube videos or does it really need a professional? I’ve been quoted from £60 To £150!

If you have the wiring and internet it is easy and doesn't need any help to set up.If you are putting it on the wall it will be very heavy and be a 2 person job.

If it's going on a wall, I wouldn't risk doing it myself-it might fall off.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/04/2023 11:46

It depends on your DIY skills and willingness to learn.

I’d pay someone but would expect it to be at the lower end of your quotes, it’s a simple job.

There’s probably a tools library near you where you can borrow the tools you need. But it might also be a source of affordable DIY help.

As in on the wall? Tbh I wouldn’t bother. You’ll only give yourself neck ache watching it. Keep it on its stand or table and save yourself grief/neck ache and money.

You mean attach it via a bracket to the wall? How easy it will be will depend on what your wall is made of. TVs are pretty heavy you need to do a good job or you could wreck the plaster and tv! It’s not that difficult but you’ll need a drill and if you’ve got a modern house make sure you get the correct fixings

BungleandGeorge · 16/04/2023 11:50

Also is the price quoted to chip the wires into
the plaster and make good? I wouldn’t want to do that myself and it usually looks a bit naff without. I’d also prefer to put it in a stand tbh!

A friend who is a joiner put two of mine up and tbh I could have done it myself, I was just too frightened because I have silly new build walls. If you're relatively handy I'd say go ahead but you'll need two people to get it clipped in once the walls mount is up. I was also quoted £60 each but he done it for nothing once he was free 😊

My husband is a DIY person as is my SIL. They've both done it themselves but they are very capable people. I did read a few years ago of a tv falling off the wall and landing on a child. The child was killed. I think I might pay the money if I had it.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 16/04/2023 12:33

DH just did ours at the weekend - it was a two person job due to the weird angles and having to hold the TV in place to mark holes etc.

I suppose whether you're willing to pay or not depends on your skill level and whether you trust the TV to stay on the wall afterwards Grin

You’re more likely to get neckache from it being too low surely

Much safer to have it on the wall though, especially if you have pets or small children.

Our last TV was damaged because the cats kept knocking it while it was on a stand. Even if you drill it place, it can still get knocked/banged and damaged.

Please don’t. It won’t fit up you.
