Just that really can an MRI detect ovarian cancer?

I don't know if it can, but I don't think it is generally used. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer after a bad fall in which I broke several ribs, and IIRC (it was all a bit woozy for a while...) it was a CT scan that detected the tumour, and it was confirmed by further, more detailed CT scans and blood tests.

The main marker for OC is a blood thing (I am not a scientist!) called CA-125, and IME they watch your levels like a hawk once it's been diagnosed. So, for example, I have 3-monthly checks, and I always have blood tests, and CT scan every 2 check-ups.

They normally check for it with an ultrasound scan

The Transvaginal Ultrasound always makes me think of the Trans Siberian Express...

Yes. MRI is pretty much gold-standard for pelvic imaging.

I got an MRI not an U/s. Every1 i know got a u/s. It really hurts when I pee. Did private tests and no infection etc. Like to the point of genuine oww!

Hi OP I'm no medic but I get regular MRI scans for MS and am normally shown the images. Given how detailed they are, of both bone and soft tissues, I'd imagine they can find any kind of growth. Hope you get good news.

JingleBellez · 16/04/2023 00:17

No, not had reports or images.

I think it's usually vaginal ultrasound, bloods for CA125, then CTscan.

Had years of annual ovarian screening. Involved vaginal ultrasound then after emptying bladder abdominal ultrasound plus blood test as pp mentioned.
