Does anyone else suffer with this?

Over the last couple of years I have developed red bumpy spots on my nose, small red solid bumps sometimes look like dots.

i think it’s roseacia according to Google.

I have tried many things, cutting out alcohol etc, I eat healthy and drink lots of water but it’s just getting worse.

I am having to put soo much make up on to cover it all the time and I am so self conscious it’s really getting me down now…sorry I know there are much worse problems in the world.

just wondering if anyone can recommend anything to get rid of it? Any creams or medications? I can’t get a GP appointment for weeks and to be honest it feels like I would be wasting their time!

I’ve had this, getting progressively worse over last couple of years and worse over winter. I’m late thirties, skin is plump and on oily side although I do suffer with dryness in colder months.
things that have helped me - skin and me prescription nightcream, you enter info about your skin and they create a formula for you. There’s usually an offer for first month free so worth a try. It very quickly got rid of the tiny bumps and helped with redness.
i then switched out all my other skin care for ultra soothing and sensitive products. I think I’d made the mistake of thinking dry skin need ultra exfoliating scrubs which were too harsh and stripped my skin of any moisture.
I have gone for la Roche-Posay Toleriane range which is for sensitive and reactive skin.
I use their Roseliac SPF daily - sun definitely contributes to redness in the long term.
Make up - I find less is more. I use Erborian redness CC cream. It’s a green tinted cream which has micro pigments that burst as you apply it and blend/match the colour of your skin. The green tint helps to offset redness but not in an overpowering way - it doesn’t leave me looking green/grey ( the rosalique one is too green and orange toned for me).
I avoid pink blushes and just use a light bronzer.
I hope this helps, it’s miserable when you are unhappy with your skin.
I know my triggers are exercise and being hot, not much I can do about either of those!

Fefifobum · 16/04/2023 02:41

I use Metrogel/Rozex gel prescribed by the doctor under my moisturiser with SPF 20 and also recently I’ve found Dr Jarts+ Cicapair Tiger grass colour correcting treatment SPF 30and also Dr Jarts+ Camo drops with SPF 35.They are so easy to apply and blend in.
Ive never worn make up, don’t drink or smoke.
Im extremely self conscious of it but I’m not as bad as some people.
Being hot and stressed is my triggers

AlphaAlpha · 16/04/2023 03:23

Second rozex gel, you can buy it from online pharmacies....
Also a months course of Lymecycline has helped (prescribed along with my first tube of rozex)

It's miserable and I sympathise greatly.

I could have written the same post OP. Mine started a few years ago. It flares up usually when I get too much sun or when I'm generally run down and I agree, it makes me very self conscious too.
I've tried a few tea tree based creams with limited success. Getting a doctors appointment is slow and like you, I feel a bit like I'm wasting their time for something minor.
After googling the subject there are a few different sub types of rosacea and mine appears to be the pustular type. Horrifyingly there seems to be some references to skin mites that cause this. I understand that skin has its own microflora /fauna and I guess this is why one of the current prescription only treatments uses ivermectin as it's active ingredient. If you're non horsy, ivermectin has been used as a horse wormer for as long as I can remember. Definitely following in case someone else has had success with any over the counter treatments.

EvonneGoolagong · 16/04/2023 07:06

I have this and topical treatments work a bit but the only thing that’s really helped is laser.

I’ve had IPL and another type (Nd-YAG) and whilst expensive they have taken away so much of the redness and soreness. I end up having it every couple of years and I think if you spread the cost out, it’s probably not that much more expensive the gels and creams.

I also recommend mineral make up and plenty of sunscreen.

feghs324 · 16/04/2023 07:09

Yes I’m currently suffering from a terrible flare up and I see the doctor for antibiotics when this happens. Three months of doxycycline. I know antibiotics aren’t for everyone but it’s the only thing that clears it up for me and they are low dose so fine to be on for periods of time.

I would see your GP and maybe a dermatologist if possible as rosacea gets worse if left untreated. Can you get a zoom appointment/call with your GP quicker? That’s what I did and I managed to speak to them in the same day I called up.

blitzen · 16/04/2023 07:10

Soolantra from your GP helped mine

Howdoidoit100 · 16/04/2023 07:19

Randomly mine was caused by cinnamon. I was having cinnamon on my porridge daily. I cut that out and the rosacea went. I find it does flare up if I eat too much spicy food. The Dr gave metrogel but I haven't needed it since cutting out the spice.

MamaNell · 16/04/2023 07:21

I found the online prescriptions very expensive. So went with a online dermatologist Skin & Me and I've also tried Dematica. Both about £25 but have intro offers.
I think niacinamide and azeliac acid are the active ingredients although they do personalise it. And the 'recipe' does change month to month.
It really works for me, and when I stopped for a few months it really did come back so works as a preventative too

Sgtmajormummy · 16/04/2023 07:26

I used Benzac 5% gel on my worrisome rosacea nose.
Did the job in one application.

Maray1967 · 16/04/2023 07:37

I had it for years. It flared up and went down following hormonal changes- definitely, although GP was sceptical. I was pregnant several times and had mcs and could see it flare up after the end of the pregnancy. I last had it before I had my ovaries removed - not had it since (over 10 years ago).

Unfortunately the only thing that worked for me were courses of strong antibiotics like tetracycline. GP asked me how much I’d spent on cosmetic treatments and told me all it needed was the cost of a prescription.
2 or 3 days in on the tetracyclines and it would be gone but you need to take it for weeks - and must not get pregnant while on it.

aleC4 · 16/04/2023 07:43

I finally went to the drs about this last week after it getting progressively worse over the last couple of years.
I was prescribed Rosex cream to use for four weeks and then have to go back.
I can see a definite improvement after one week. The spots/bumps have mostly gone and the soreness has completely gone.
My skin is still red but less so than it was.
I use the Rosalique tinted moisturiser over the top to help with the redness.

WhiteCatmas · 16/04/2023 07:47

Soolantra
it is the way

user1471434829 · 16/04/2023 08:01

Just get to the Dr's! I take the antibiotics for mine, oxytetracycline and my skin looks pretty good. Different things will work for different people, the creams didn't help me at all.

sixtiesbaby88 · 16/04/2023 08:05

Soolantra on prescription worked immediately for me. You can also buy it from Superdrug online after a small questionnaire.

DappledThings · 16/04/2023 08:06

Had it for 30 years. I just live with it. Can't be bothered trying to find triggers and cures and all that. Only annoys me when it gets itchy. The red and spots are just what my face is these days!

Sometimes gets better in the summer sun, sometimes gets worse. It's a lottery.

Barnybrown · 16/04/2023 08:21

I agree re laser treatment - if you can afford it I would book to see a dermatologist at a skin clinic . I went to Sk:n , saw a dermatologist who prescribed antibiotics and I had three laser treatment sessions. I also now use their moisturiser and oil free sun block. I only use Bare Minerals make up. My rosacea has completely cleared up as a result.

SpecialControlGroup · 16/04/2023 11:33

Soolantra cleared mine up, now I use it once a week and it's not come back. I just went through Superdrug online though as it's impossible to get a GP appointment around here so didn't bother trying

CatsMother66 · 16/04/2023 12:18

@notsignedupforthis I had lovely skin until I became pregnant and I immediately broke out in sore red weeping boils/spots all over my face. After pregnancy the pustules remained over my nose and cheeks for the next ten years. It’s soul destroying, confidence sapping. I was asked whether I was taking drugs or covering up bruises with makeup.
I joined a Rosacea UK Facebook site and did my own research on line and realised in my case, pregnancy had made my face greasy and an ideal breeding ground for skin mites. I sent for some ZZ cream which some posters recommended and it worked for me. I bought it off the Demodex site and it was expensive.
I suffered for ten years before trying this cream and I could see it work almost instantly, although I applied it, as recommended for the next few months.
I know posters have recommended ivermectin creams but I can only post about my experience.
Do your research and if you think your problems are down to skin mites, I can’t recommend this enough. There are no complete ingredients listed which was a worry but I was desperate and took a chance. Worked for me.

Mine was terrible. Really awful. A short course of steroids from the dermatologist took the worst off (a controversial treatment choice apparently but it worked) and then azithromycin (antibiotic) for a bit and Soolantra.

If you can scrape together and go to a private dermatologist, it would be well worth it. I waited four years and regret waiting - left with physical and mental scars!
