Fright of my life

Dd is nearly one and is now pulling herself up in her cot and on furniture and on everything else.

Sometimes if she wakes up in the night she'll kneel or stand in her cot until someone comes in to pacify her. Well earlier I thought I heard her stir but it then went quiet so I thought nothing of it. When I went to check later she was asleep, doubled over in the cot in a sitting position with her head on her knees. She must has stood up then got tired and fallen asleep sat up!! I freaked out when I saw her in such an odd position! Moved her back onto her back and she's fine but sleeping for long in that position can't be good for anyone surely?

I've never known a baby do this. Have yours ever scared you like this?

We heard a loud bang and we found our child on the top of the stairs grinning, climbed over the cot and got out somehow

I looked after my niece once at about 18mths. She was in my room in a travel cot. I woke up about 3.00ish and put light on to check she was ok and she was standing staring at me whilst in the cot. Turned out she was asleep. I freaked out though! She was trance like..

In the 90s we were on holiday in Florida, I was 4 and my 6 year old cousin and I were sharing a bedroom in the apartment.

We had blue slush puppies and went to bed. My uncle came in to check on us and ran back down to the lounge to get somebody to help as I slept with my eyes open and had blue lips.

Lol at "keeping a constant eye on the baby monitor". And how does one, you know, sleep and shit? We must sit awake all night as parents, staring at the monitor, lest our baby sneezes or farts and we miss it.

🙄

notanotherdayofthisshit · 15/04/2023 12:13

OP, yes that would have freaked me out too, but babies are seemingly more bendy and flexible! My 2 year old frequently gets herself into some crazy sleeping positions and I just look at her thinking how on earth are you comfortable? Confused

This thread has reminded me of this photo I took of our DD3 eleven years ago. 😅

DD was a bugger for not sleeping and then she would just go.
She was on the toilet aged around 18 months and fell asleep mid wee. She ended up lying in front of the loo still fast asleep while spraying wee everywhere, it was delightful.
DS used to lie as if he had been dropped from a height, in fact at age 14 he still does

spidereggs · 15/04/2023 12:46

@GrazingSheep are you my mum? I did this at flodden rideout many years ago. Was waiting to head back into town, all got a bit much, so had a wee nap!

zingally · 15/04/2023 13:24

My mum has a photo of me, aged about 2.5, standing, but with the top half of my body flopped onto the settee, face down, fast asleep!

I once found my dd asleep, about 1yo, on her knees with bum in the air, but face in the mattress.

Totally normal. Their bones aren’t formed like ours are; their pelvis doesn’t even properly form until adolescence so it’s nothing to worry about.

Aren’t you keeping a constant eye on the baby monitor though? Confused

Bloody hell! I’m 4 kids in and never knew I was meant to sit and stare at my children asleep in case they fell asleep sitting up, it’s a miracle they’ve made it this far with a neglectful mother like me 🙄

Mabelface · 15/04/2023 13:37

Found all 4 of my kids like this many a time! Babies are busy little things with busy minds and sometimes the body just does what's needed, hence the falling asleep in ridiculous positions.

charliegirl86 · 15/04/2023 14:44

Massive eye roll at the poster who thinks everyone MUST have a video monitor 🙄🙄I have a 2yo and 4yo and never had a video monitor. My techy DH doesn't trust them as they can be hacked easily and he would only use cctv we've installed ourself if we wanted a camera in there. So guess what...we've survived 4 years with no video, shock horror. Hearing them cry is enough, you can literally walk into their room to see them anytime you want

"Aren’t you keeping a constant eye on the baby monitor though?"

What baby monitor?
