Friend hit her dog

My friend is a big dog lover and works as a behaviouralist/trainer. We were out walking and her dog pulled when we were near some water. She’s a big dog and my friend ended up falling whilst trying to pull her back. When she stood up she hit the dog multiple times. Not hard but enough to make the dog cower 😔

I’ve never had a dog and I understand that the dog needs to learn not to pull. But to hit her? This isn’t ok, surely?

Oh don't worry I completely agree with you in terms of how wrong that is. But it doesn't change the fact it was normal. Things move on for the better.

All I am saying is that maybe she's from an older generation and she doesn't get it. But by all means she should be told off.

Unless she is 80/90 years old then I very much doubt she was of a generation where it was normal, maybe as a child but certainly not by the time she had her own DC.

@Beadyeyes91 thank you so much for giving a loving home to these poor abused animals 💖

my parents are 60+ , my partners parents are Irish and Spanish in their 70s .. they are not that old but it is a dated practice.

you are wrong. It was normal when I grew up where I grew up. Expand your limited views

My limited views that it isn’t normal to ‘beat up’ children? Or that it doesn’t make any difference to the abnormality of beating up dogs?

of course it isn't normal! I've had multiple arguments with my parents and grandparents about this specific topic! But I just wanted to point out to the OP that perhaps some ppl think a tap/correction not proper BEAT up is a normal correction for bad behaviour. But that is what we deem as completely insane it was just a different time for older generation!
But this person is supposedly a behaviourist that is the scary part!

Quveas · 14/04/2023 13:59

She's not much of a behaviouralist or trainer, is she? I'd have stopped her and reported her. Why didn't you?

Prescottdanni123 · 14/04/2023 14:09

Hitting dogs is cruel. All it does is cause them pain and make them fear their owner - the one person they should always feel safe with and never fear. She is not a dog lover and she must be an awful trainer if that is what she teaches people to do.

I've had dogs all my life and never hit one of them
I'd be torn between staying in contact with her to make sure the dog is OK and kicking her head in
I'd certainly be saying something though, it's not OK
