AIBU to try? Eczema and Homeopathy

Hello everyone,

I need some advice about Eczema and Homeopathy. My eldest son is 13 and has Eczema and mild Acne and THEN chickenpox. We went to our local
GP as my son had concerns about his acne and chickenpox scarring. The GP was not worried and said it would fade Confused. I told the GP that my son is mixed race and his hyperpigmentation from his scars would not just fade without treatment but I was advised to go private.

Anywhoo, I saw a private dermatologist who was amazing and prescribed my son on Antibiotics and a mild retinol for his acne. However, she had concerns about my son's eczema and the above treatments will aggravate his skin without the Eczema being treatment. She recommended a mild steroid cream but we rejected this as a few years ago and multiple testing we have found that the high potent steroids were causing my son to have pre-diabetes.

So the dermatologist recommended should use a Mike steroid or be put onto non steroid tablets such as methotrexate or ciclosporin. I'm not sure what to do? Would it be silly if I go down the homeopathy route? The Dr told me that the longer eczema stays in the body, the more inflammation my son will have.

as over the years, we saw an Endcodrinolog

Has anyone bothered to test your DS for Coeliac disease? It is a simple blood test and he must be eating bread etc before the test.

If steroid creams are giving him pre-diabetes, he must have a natural predisposition to it. Check out diets that help reverse diabetes. Actually ask you GP to refer him to a dietician, they can help a lot.

Remember there are a lot of snake oil merchants out there.

He has always been on a gluten free diet due to allergy to gluten so did not think to Coeliac...

I agree. I believe he had a predisposition to diabetes and the potent steroid (Elocon) triggered it. We managed to reverse pre-diabetes through diet but his blood sugars are still high ish (not pre diabetic) so now they want to see if he has some sort of a special kind of diabetes MODY (?) and are still awaiting results.

Have you tried protopic cream?

I've heard of this but I was worried to try it as some adults who suggested from withdrawal syndrome (from steroids) found that they experienced the same symptoms that they had with steroids.

Sorry, I'm also confused. I meant homeopathy as herbal, dietary, gut health remedies not water??

whatever you do, moisturise twice a day, it makes the biggest difference with eczema

Yes, this! Also if it is on hands, make sure he dries them well after washing

My daughter had life long eczema and was hospitalised with it at 8 months of age. She has had various treatments including mostly steroid creams. She had to come off them as needed stronger and stronger creams. She saw Julia
Edgeley in S. of France who is a UK trained GP and trained Homeopathist (very well known). There is a program for coming off steroid creams which can take some people over a year of great suffering to achieve - and there are books about it. People coming off steroids then stop the eczema by a strict diet which the homeopathist determines. My daughter is now ''cured'' but has to keep to the diet. Steroids are the lazy way for doctors to ''help'' with eczema - but who knows that?

Although I don’t believe in actual homeopathy ie water with nothing else in it you’d be silly not to explore anti inflammatory diets, gut health etc because methotrexate etc is a really strong drug requiring regular liver function tests etc. It is not something I would want a teenager on if they haven’t tried all the alternatives.

At the very least placebo effect exists. Science confirms it.
At least it’s better to try something that “is made out of nothing” than to continue to use strong stuff that could potentially be affecting your dc?

What have you got to lose ( apart from money, which is nothing when dc is suffering )

It would be a great idea to try homoepathy, acupuncture or a naturopath. Ive used all and had great results.

Has he tried calcipotriol cream? It’s more commonly prescribed for psoriasis but studies have shown it’s effective for eczema as well. It is non steroidal, it’s an analogue of vitamin D.

Im a firm believer of homeopathy after seeing incredible results after a few months worth of effort.

I would say for it to work best, the person in question needs to have a solid gut and great gut flora and so one should certainly prepare their gut.

It worked on my DS's eczema when we were desperate, so I'd say it's worth a try.
