Driving theory test expires next month, so I'm doing intensive crash course

I've been learning to drive on and off for the last few years with the same instructor. No real progress and they weren't encouraging or pushing me to go forward for the practical test.
Last week, a family member of mine made some enquiries with another local instructor (who has fantastic reviews, hundreds of them in fact) and explained my situation. The instructor was available the same day so we arranged to have our first lesson together then. They assessed my driving and said it's nowhere near as bad as expected and that I just need to work on my confidence. They're confidence of being able to offer me a test date within next couple of weeks (which would possibly even allow me enough time to re-sit if necessary). Hoping to pass before my theory expires and they seem confident I have a decent chance.
Anyone done this before? I mean spend years with an instructor, making no progress them move on to a more intensive one who pushes you to get ready for test?

Have you thought of just redoing your theory test? Maybe it’s changed but when I did it (over ten years ago) it was fairly straightforward
according to official statistics 45% of people fail their theory test so I’m not sure it can be that straightforward .
Good luck @letsgetdriving , hope this instructor works out for you .

Yes I did this too OP! Just didn't get on with that instructor but didn't know any better.

Was competent enough but not confident. The next instructor was totally different, I sat the test quickly and passed first time.

Hope it works for you too!

12 years ago I was in the theory test centre with a woman celebrating with staff who presumably she was on first name terms with because she had just passed her test on her FOURTEENTH attempt.

Based on that, I’d say failing was reasonably common 😁

Go for it OP.

I’m currently learning, had my 65th lesson last week and passed my theory last August. Once I’d passed that, knowing the waiting time for tests, I asked my instructor for his instructor code so that I could book a test but he wouldn’t give it to me, said he wanted to perfect parking manoeuvres before I booked one.
I’ve done that and still he doesn’t think I should book one. I’m driving confidently through the busy town centre, on dual carriageways at the appropriate speed etc, have my own car to practice in and my husband is relaxed while I drive.

Last September I contacted some recommended instructors with a view to changing but the waiting lists for those were ridiculously long. They were estimating this month as the earliest so I didn’t bother! I know people who can’t even get on waiting lists. I really wish I’d asked to be added now as I’m starting to worry that by the time I eventually take a test I’ll have wasted a year at least of my theory. It’s really bloody frustrating.
