Inspired by another thread, some of the posts were interesting.

AIBU to think that, in this day and age, a washing machine is more useful than a dishwasher in day-to-day life?

YABU - I’d rather have a dishwasher
YANBU - hell no, I need my washing machine

I have both as one came with my rented house but would choose the washing machine over the dishwasher

Furries · 13/04/2023 10:27

@Aprilx - nope, trying to highlight the fact that there is no option for taking your dirty dishes offsite to be washed by a dishwasher elsewhere. Therefore, the choice to do the same with clothes is taken away.

@Aprilx it's not a 'dumb' question. It's a hypothetical discussion. Some people absolutely hate washing up. My sister would rather hand wash her clothes than her dishes, 100%

Washing machine

PegasusReturns · 13/04/2023 10:48

Washing machine for sure - I do about 20 loads of washing a week. I cannot begin to imagine how you could manage that by hand!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/04/2023 18:47

Washing machine. I've never had a dishwasher. Don't see the point in having one when there's only ever 1 or 2 people in the house.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 13/04/2023 18:50

Never had a dishwasher and, quite frankly, rinsing a few plates and bowls every day is NOTHING compared to trying to get sheets and the dog's blankets spun well enough to hang out on the line to dry in half a day on a damp winter afternoon.

Washing machine all the way.

I'd rather wear dirty clothes forever than not have my dishwasher Grin

Bk1000 · 13/04/2023 20:11

We didn’t have a washing machine for quite a long time growing up my parents couldn’t afford one and I remember my mum scrubbing clothes in the bath and using an old mangle to wring them out. It wasn’t fun!

I would say a washing machine is the one appliance I wouldn’t be willing to live without. If mine breaks it’s an absolute emergency job to get it repaired/replaced within a few days at most.

GOW56 · 13/04/2023 20:16

I need both.
But I use my dishwasher more often and I suppose I could always use s launderette if I didn't have a washing machine but there is nowhere I could take dirty dishes

MamaNell · 13/04/2023 20:37

The washing machine is considered more important as an influence on modern life than the internet... so as a driver of feminism and female equality I will take a washing machine. Although I do have both!

In reality, a few weeks of washing and trying to wring everything out, quilts/sheets/towels included would have everyone opting for a washing machine. I can remember people (women) getting their first twin tubs and the difference it made, that's even with having launderettes in walking distance.

mbosnz · 13/04/2023 20:46

I'm old enough that I used a washing machine with a wringer/mangle. If I had to choose one or the other, it would be a washing machine. Everyone could then step up to the dishes.

PiercingsAndTattoosRockChick · 13/04/2023 21:08

Definitely gotta be a washing machine! I'd be lost without mine!
