Anxious, Colposcopy screening while 33 weeks pregnant!

Been having some soreness, and after an examination I was asked straight away when my last cervical screening test was (alarm bells now ringing, especially for an anxious person like myself). GP said she is referring me to the colposcopy department due to an abnormal looking cervix.

I spoken with my midwife who said this likely won't take place until after I've given birth.

Had a call from the hospital today, wanting me to come in next Friday for a colposcopy. I said that I'm heavily pregnant but the hospital said the Dr has reviewed my notes and would like to still do the procedure.

Im so worried and feel like this is going to totally occupy me until that appointment. Has anyone else been referred to a screening like this whilst pregnant? If so, what was the outcome? I'm scared.

I had one when I was about 20 weeks, and it was fine. Did faint afterwards though. Last smear was clear, too.

@OkyDoke Thanks for responding! Was the colposcopy following a check? And it came back clear?

I will remember to stay hydrated and stay cautious of fainting!

I had 2 colposcopies a year apart, both came back absolutely normal. Try not to worry, as hard as it is xx

@username1233 It was slightly different, I had bleeding from about 8 weeks and they saw a polyp and cervical erosion so they did a colposcopy to check it out and ended up cauterising my cervix. I've had a smear since and it was fine.

Yes me, I had a dodgy smear and was about to go and have the laser treatment on it but literally found out I was pregnant the day of the procedure. I had to have regular colposcopy’s throughout my pregnancy, every couple of months I think, and then I had the laser procedure 3 months after baby born. The first colposcopy I had, I was terrified, by the last one I was old friends with the staff and not that fussed about it! The thought of it is far worse than the reality.

I have a friend who discovered she had cervical cancer when she was pregnant with her DS. They treated the cancer, removed it and gave her chemo all while she was pregnant. The cancer is now gone and the baby is a healthy 6 year old. Modern technology and good doctors can be amazing.

Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to respond. I had a colposcopy around 5 years ago so know what to experience. I just feel like if they're doing one during my pregnancy it must be something to be wary off. 8 days until the appointment, hopefully it will fly by.
