Help, 2 job offers

I am in the lucky position of having 2 job offers on the table. They both have their pros and cons which makes it so hard to choose:
Job A
Huge multinational company working in a different role to what I am doing currently. Its similar and more aligned to my qualifications/background prior to my current role which appeals to me. WFH is 3 days per week which is a good job because its a huge 1 hour commute each way. I had a good feel about the company and the people.

Job B
A National company in role very similar to what I am currently doing. It is offering slightly better pay and only 20 minutes away WFH 2dpw. I didn't get a particular good feel about it and it was difficult to build a rapport with the interviewer and my would-be Manager.
Which would you choose? My heart says A but my head says B

Job A. The commute is longer and pay is less but I'd take that over not gelling with the manager. Also, if the firm is multinational there may be much more opportunity for career progression.

Is it possible for you to move closer to job A?

Do you have childcare responsibilities which will make A more difficult? An hour commute by train or bus where you can do life admin, read etc is different to driving.

Id go with your heart and choose A.

From the way the post is written, which favours A! I think you've already made your mind up OP!!

NotMyDayJob · 12/04/2023 08:45

Job A. Never ignore your gut instinct which is telling you Job B is not right. Doesn't mean job A is definitely right but job B definitely isn't.

BevMarsh · 12/04/2023 08:51

Do you have children?
If so, what would happen on days in office A if you get a call to pick child up from nursery/childminder/school? An hour away would worry me.
Therefore if you have/are planning dc I'd go with B.
Tbh I'd go with B anyway as personally I hate travelling and I'd spend my days wfh stressing about the going-in days.

B. Managers can and do change.

Butterfly44 · 12/04/2023 09:15

A. Gut instinct. Being happy and supportive at work in a good environment is key!

sweetheartyparty · 12/04/2023 09:17

I do have a DD 6. My DP works PT so should be able to pick up DD at short notice. Otherwise we have GP nearby who could at a push.
I'm open to moving closer. DD is young and very sociable so hopefully she could settle relatively quickly. We have elderly GP's nearby but would still be able to visit regularly especially if we chose an area between the two.
I'll be driving the distance mostly motorways.
My gut feeling does say option A but reassuring to hear your opinions.

I think those initial feelings that you get often aren't matched when you start the job. One can feel amazing and turn out bad. And vice versa. If they were both a 5 min commute, and same money and both wfh 3 days which would you pick?

Moreorlessmentallystable · 12/04/2023 10:16

Depends on the wage difference...1k a year would go with A, 10k difference go with B.

Ariela · 12/04/2023 11:34

Job A but ask if they can match the salary Job B offered.

Bluevelvetsofa · 12/04/2023 11:38

Toss a coin and see whether you’re disappointed or relieved at the outcome.
