Royal Mail delivery photos?

retrosteamband · 12/04/2023 07:43

Aibu to think RM standards have slipped?

I moved to a new build property, at my previous address Royal Mail used to leave my mail in the porch or hand it directly to me. I haven’t had problems with lost/missing deliveries & I’m the first person to live here, so it’s unlikely the address is flagged as being problematic.

However Royal Mail refuses to leave my “tracked 48” mail at this address in a safe place, or to allow me to accept the parcel without taking a photograph. It’s annoying when I’m not home as deliveries can’t be undertaken, and annoying when I am home as I feel it’s an invasion of my privacy to have to pose for a photo.

When I refused to take a photo, the postie asked for a photo of the parcel in my doorway, and started kicking my parcel to shimmy it into the position he wanted. As an aside, the few times I have collected from the delivery office, my parcels have been damaged so god knows what they do to parcels when customers aren’t present.

I dont know about the rest of your post but you certainly don't have to pose for the photo, the most of me that has ever been in the photo is a hand or more normally my foot as they place it in the doorway.

violetskypurple · 12/04/2023 07:50

Why do you need to pose for a photo? They usually just take a photo of it in my hand or on on the floor

Yellowrosesmakemehappy · 12/04/2023 07:52

They usually have a photo of my slippers or at very worst my gorgeous WFH leggings 😂

potatowhale · 12/04/2023 07:54

My posties are brilliant and I haven't had any problems with the photo. They usually get my slippers in and thats about it. It's because the sign for was getting a bit silly when it was no contact signing.

UmbilicusProfundus · 12/04/2023 07:54

YABW.

Did you move to a new build as it doesn’t yet appear on Google street view? Because that is about the same level of privacy concerns as the postie taking a photo of you doorstep (+/- your big toe)

potatowhale · 12/04/2023 07:54

Also if you have the app it's great as you can ask them to redeliver on another day really easily

PMAalltheway · 12/04/2023 07:54

They usually get my feet in the pic, glad I've started my spring/summer pedicure regime Grin

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 12/04/2023 08:04

I work in someone's home and take parcels for them. My boss has commented that she never realised what fabulous socks I wore until the postie started taking delivery photos.
They don't capture your face.

RM won't leave parcels in visible places in case of theft. And I don't see a huge issue with the presumably gentle nudging with foot if you're being difficult by not agreeing to hold the parcel.

I'm not sure what your problem is.

When I refused to take a photo

You're being unreasonable with these parts of your post. There's nothing invasive about a photo of your hand or foot.

cocksstrideintheevening · 12/04/2023 08:17

You pose for the photo?

potatowhale · 12/04/2023 08:18

You pose for the photo?

Yeah I do too it just means standing still

rainbowunicorn · 12/04/2023 08:18

You are being utterly ridiculous.

mynameiscalypso · 12/04/2023 08:24

I'm I think some of the types of delivery, they have to actually hand to a person (and taking a pic has replaced signatures partly because of Covid I think). If they don't have evidence of the item being handed to someone, it would be much easier to claim that they hadn't delivered and complain/commit fraud etc.

Zingy123 · 12/04/2023 08:43

YABU. We have to take the photo with the parcel in the doorway. If the postie doesn't think it's a safe place to leave it if you aren't in then they won't leave it. How are the standards slipping by keeping your items safe?

Spottycarousel · 12/04/2023 09:38

V odd if your postie is asking you to pose for a photo! All I've ever had to do is show my hand holding the parcel.

Yeah they have on the label of some of them PHOTO

YABU

If post goes missing from a safe place it costs them money ...
If people claim it hasn't been delivered when it has it costs them money ...

My posties are brilliant, whether PO or RM - I know they shouldn't but mine even signs for my signed for packets! It's been years since I've had to go to Post Office to collect anything, I think I've got lockdown to thank for that. I have got a large parcel safe next to my front door which might help too, as Amazon, Evri etc happily use it too.

Tessisme · 13/04/2023 07:37

I think you are being a bit precious about the photo OP, but I agree that the Royal Mail's service isn't that great lately. I often use the option to divert a parcel to the post office. Normally I would submit the request, receive email confirmation and parcel duly turns up at my local post office. The last few times I have done this, my parcel turned up at my address, even though I received confirmation it would be delivered to the post office. I wasn't in, so it was returned to the central office. A couple of times it was just left on the doorstep. I don't have a 'safe place', although some couriers seem to think chucking it over a seven foot gate is safe enough.
