To get just a shower .. not a whole new bathroom?

We have a pretty old avocado bathroom but the bath is quire nice as it's boxed in with tongue and groove and the tiles are okish

We need a shower, but funds are small.

Anyone had success with getting a builder to just rip a few tiles out, connect a basic shower, and put in a foldable screen type thing? I've asked a few people but obviously it isn't as lucrative as fitting an entire new bathroom.

I think you can have valves put into the pipes so the water is hot enough to kill any legionella risk but then ( somehow) reduces the temperature as it comes out the shower and taps if you want. Had these fitted in the 1990s, so possibly still a thing now.

@AgrathaChristie they are called Thermostatic Mixer Values and found in houses for older people, disabled etc

Many people already have Thermostatic Mixer Valves on taps/showers

Do a proper job and completely get rid of the avocado

She can't afford it
