To ask if you’ve recovered from depression without ADs

How did you do it ?

I am depressed triggered by life events and have tried therapy (a few different ones), lots of different ads and different doses (I’m on the max of one currently) but it doesn’t seem to make much difference. For the people who use antidepressants and it takes away all those negative thoughts and feelings it sounds like a life saver and wish they worked like that for me. I just don’t enjoy anything or look forward to anything :(

is there anything else I could try rather than pharmaceuticals? That has worked for someone else ?

thanks

EMDR to help process bad memories. A lot of attention to nutrition and sleep habits. Exercise (yoga, walking, biking). But mostly the EMDR. Antidepressants ultimately for me caused some very serious problems and I had to stop taking them. I wish I had never touched them TBH.

I haven't conquered it yet but there are times when I am better and that usually because of:

  • socially active (I force myself to go out when I don't want to)
  • keeping busy at work and doing extra voluntary work (school governor)
  • doing extra roles at work (called corp contribution where I work)
  • swimming (I have to nag myself to go cos it's a faff but I feel so calm all day afterwards)
  • cooking
  • taking supplements e.g. Vit D and pro biotics and whatever else I fancy
  • walking
  • watching comedy that I know will make me laugh e.g. silly stuff

I do sometimes get overwhelmed with doing too much and then I have to take stock.
