I'm in my late 20s, and in the last year I've been feeling really rundown. I wake up every morning with hives on my neck and chest, which disappear around an hour after waking. I seem to get every virus going, I used to just get a cold once a year which would be a few days of a blocked nose. But this winter alone I've had 4 really bad viruses with body aches, chills and a wheezy cough. I've got another virus now, and my whole body is aching and feels so sensitive. I sleep at least 8 hours every night and still feel exhausted. I've also noticed my leg muscles feel achy quite a lot for seemingly no reason (i.e. it's not after doing a lot of exercise). I don't think it's related but I also get an upset stomach pretty much weekly which is being investigated separately and so far everything has come back normal so is likely to just IBS.

I had a full blood count done around 4 months ago and everything was normal aside from slightly low B12.

I'm just feeling fed up after having caught yet another virus that passes through my family with just a mild cold but seems more akin to flu to me. I've needed time off work quite a lot in the last year due to illnesses.

WIBU to go to the GP for this or should I try and tackle it myself? I take a daily multivitamin but my diet isn't the healthiest.

The hives thing is interesting and worth chasing

Everything else could stem from it - poor sleep run down et.
Or it could mean an immune system problem

Did you have COVID? I have Long Covid and have some of your symptoms. Also in the first year after Covid I started having new allergic reactions, wheezing requiring inhalers with respiratory viruses.(no previous allergies or Asthma). I didn't have hives, but know people who did post COVID. Some people have been taking antihistamines for Long Covid symptoms on the advice of their GP or the Long COVID clinic. There have been people studying their use in Long COVID.

Do you have any idea what the hives could be? I've Googled but not found much on it. It's only ever in the morning

I did have COVID around a year ago, which is when some of this started. Ever since I had COVID all my colds seem to go to my chest and leave me with a wheezy cough for 4-6 weeks after. I went to the GP who listened to my chest and said everything sounded normal and they were just stubborn cold viruses lingering

I had very similar when I was having a thyroid crisis.

Could your bed be causing the hives? Try washing everything in non bio and maybe switch to hypoallergenic bedding?

Have you resolved your low b vitamins as that causes tiredness and low energy?

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 11/04/2023 21:11

Have you ever been tested for coeliac disease?

Itagain · 16/04/2023 18:28

I don't think it's my bedding as I even get it when staying away from home, and I haven't changed my washing powder or anything for years.

I take a B12 supplement but not sure if it's helping, I have a repeat blood test coming up so hopefully that will give me some answers.

I was had a blood test for coeliac disease but it came back negative
