My 9 year old daughter has been complaining of having pain in the top of her foot the past couple of days. She is a keen gymnast but can't pin point when it happened. It's giving her a bit of pain when she walks but is still able to walk on it. It hurts when she wiggles her toes and she can't flex her foot back the way. It is red and swollen and there is a bump but she seems herself with it so I'm thinking can't be a break or anything.

Should I call nhs 111 or just leave to visit GP tomorrow?

She has gymnastics tonight so is adamant she is going.

Minor injuries or A&E. GP won't be able to do anything as it will need an X-ray. There's a strike this week so go today

kingofqueen · 10/04/2023 10:48

I just don't want to waste their time as she does seem fine in herself and is walking normally.

GP tomorrow. The6 can refer for xray but you may find it resolves with rest and ice today.

LIZS · 10/04/2023 10:50

And she should not train later.

kingofqueen · 10/04/2023 10:53

The thing is it's been this way since last week

I was hoping it would go away on its own

If it is a sift tissue injury it will take a while to go down. Not an emergency though. What have you tried?

ThinWomansBrain · 10/04/2023 11:06

can't be that painful (or an emergency) if she plans to do gymnastics this evening.
If you're that concerned, probably more useful to say no to more gymnastics until the injury has healed?

jessycake · 10/04/2023 11:21

Go to minor injuries that is what they are for , they will decide it its a soft tissue injury and give advice or needs an an xray .

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 10/04/2023 11:23

What have you done so far?
She’s 9, she doesn’t get to insist on going to gym tonight.

Agree with this

If you ring 111 now you may well not get a cal back until this evening.

How have you been treating it so far?

if it’s not getting any worse then I wouldn’t be contacting 111 today.

kingofqueen · 10/04/2023 11:32

Ice, rest, foot up. There is no minor injuries as I am in Scotland 😩

I would carry on with that then and no training until it’s better.
