Anyone live in Worthing, West Sussex?

To be closer to our parents we are considering a move to worthing in West Sussex. We love about an hour away but are used to countryside!
What is Worthing like? I saw another thread about it and it had a few negative responses. Is this accurate? I want my children to be able to spend more time with grandparents!

@OttersR0ck Did you venture over to Goring? Goring First and West Park are both excellent primary schools and St Oscar Romero was something like 30th in the country for GCSE results last year. It's not "lively" per se but there are a handful of nice pubs and restaurants. And only a few miles from the town centre.

Sorry to hear you're feeling down @OttersR0ck

Have you looked at surrounding areas near Worthing? Rustington, Shoreham. Or even mid Sussex, somewhere like Horsham or Haywards Heath?

Depending how far you want to be. Horsham, Haywards Heath, Cowfold, arundel, Ardingly, Cuckfield and East Grinstead are my preferred areas of west sussex. I have lived in 2 of these places and still live in one of them. I have lived in west sussex for 10 years now after moving from Kent and love it

Antisocial behaviour, county lines drug dealers. Town Centre run down. Nothing much for kids to do. I would look at Ferring, Goring or Findon. There are definate places to avoid.

Worthing has been good to us bringing up children.
Nice parks, beach, independent cinemas, lots of lovely restaurants and bars, decent hospital, very limited shopping but the basics are there. Some good schools and kids clubs.

We've just moved further north but spend a lot of time in Worthing. Crime and poverty is an ever increasing factor everywhere and in seaside towns I think.

I can comment well having lived all over London and Brighton too. Can confirm Worthing is a great place if you want:
-A lovely quiet beach-
Beautiful countryside and walking nearby-
Friendly community, quite diverse and queer friendly
-Very good cafes restaurants pubs and bars (both traditional and also natural wines bars and small plates etc, craft breweries for a bit of pizazz)
-Two great cinemas and theatres
-Good schools
-Leafy parks
-Decent town centre with walkable shops
-Three train stations(!) and an easy enough commute straight to Victoria/East Croydon/Clapham
-Decent parking (especially compared to Brighton)
-And affordable homes! I bought my three bedroom house in a good area for only 30k more than my one bedroom flat in Brighton-For us it's been a no brainer and we love it, we're in our 30s and lots of our friends are following suit.
-Best areas: Check it out in person. Personally we're near the station on a leafy nice street, Tarring (West) is also desirable. But the best way to ascertain is to go and walk aroun

Wats the best place to move to in the south of England? Budget 300,000 3 bed house. I've seen a couple in Worthing. Lots in Littlehampton but I've heard that its not a great place. I dont want a retirement kinda area. But im happy with peaceful and quite and somewhere to raise a family. By the sea would be great!! Love countryside aswell but not too quiet and rural.
