To get a double buggy?

I can't believe I'm writing this!
Have DS 4 and DD 2. Had a double uppa baby but got rid of it in January. We've just been on holiday and used our light buggy for DD and borrowed one for DS. It was really helpful.

Now I'm really tempted to buy a lightweight double. Would that be ridiculous?

You will get a ton of people telling you all about how their 18 month old never ever uses a buggy. Personally I believe that there are two types of parents of young children - those that use polluting buggies (they call them “cars”) and those that use non polluting buggies.

Generally speaking, physical disabilities aside, a 4 year old doesn't need a pushchair, no.
Only you know if you have circumstances that mean he does.

I had one until mine were 4&6. And we used it! Lifesaver literally as dd1 is autistic and a bolter.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 08/04/2023 18:07

DS isn't particularly a bolter but he has been known to.
I can't believe I'm tempted - I'd have laughed at you if you'd suggested it - but it does seem like something that would be helpful!

Wouldn't a buggy board on your 2 year olds pram be a better solution? I can't imagine a 4 year old would fit in a double pram comfortably.

Oysterbabe · 08/04/2023 18:32

I think 4 is too old. I had a buggy board for longer walks at that age.

mamabear715 · 08/04/2023 18:36

Depends on the child. My eldest would walk for MILES. His little brother would have probably happily stayed in a buggy until he was 10.. ;-)
I found when I had my twins that even lightweight doubles are bloody heavy. Mind, I was lovely & thin then..

Personally I’d do it. I’ve got similar ages and double buggy is brilliant. DC can hop in and out. Means we can go for longer walks, if we go into town DC can stay safe and strapped in. Can go for super fast walks to shops too when needed! No stopping every few seconds to stare at cracks in the pavement!

im the same. Would have laughed at the idea of a double. But we got a buggy board and DC hated it. So ended up getting a double on FB marketplace - Best Buy I’ve ever made 😂

MuffinToSeeHere · 08/04/2023 18:50

Agree with others surely a buggy board would make more sense than a double. Your child is 4, they will presumably be at school in September so the buggy will be used very infrequently if at all in just a few short months.

If you find a lightweight double buggy, let me know! In my experience, they are all heavy and cumbersome, no matter what you pay. And the lighter they are, they more £££. And still awkward. I'd be getting a buggy board if you need something (although I hate them too as they make my back hurt). I've got a 4 and 2 year old too. I'm just encouraging the 4 year old to walk more (or using the car more) till his legs get stronger. If desperate, we use the buggy board, but I find I struggle to push them together because the combined weight is just too much (and that's on my 10kg bugaboo). For context, my happy place is one child on a yoyozen, and I am already imagining the dance I will do when I can get rid of all buggies....

He's never had a buggy board, maybe he'd sit still... can you even put one on an umbrella folding stroller?!

We had a single baby jogger city mini abd I just laid it flat and at 4 and 18months both mine sat in it together whilst we were travelling.

I did use a double buggy for a while too it was great. But I'm one of those parents that walk and don't use car to go everywhere

I use a Phil & Teds with my 4yo, it's brilliant as it has the width of a single so I can bring it most places I'd take a single buggy. When she's walking, or if I'm only with my youngest I can use the second seat to hold bags etc. But really useful for days out across big parks or theme parks, or when we need to do errands that need lots of walking in between. No car so we do loads of walking, and not always time to go at a 4yo pace.

We have a buggy board and I found it awful, so awkward to push especially at kerbs and not comfy to stand on as it was all jerky. Plus I can keep DD covered with the raincover in the double.
