so, DH offered to pressure wash MILs drive this evening. It’s FILTHY! Is there anything we can pre treat it with - must be plant and animal friends. MIL is paranoid at using commercial patio cleaning products as she has cats, a dog and lots of plants.

they say biological washing powder but I use a weak bleach solution and scrub in with an old brush

Is this ok for plants? We are doing her patio too.

We used vinegar bottles. 29p each Tescos. The white/clear one. Scrub in for 20 mins then jet spray.

Wet & Forget is good. You can use on fencing and patios

TrombonesAreNotBones · 08/04/2023 17:26

Um no, the karcher will take care of it all, no need to pre treat.

Augend23 · 08/04/2023 17:28

I don't think you'll need to pre treat with a pressure washer tbh.

QuertyGirl · 08/04/2023 17:29

What's on it that needs cleaning off?

I have used washing powder mixed with water on cobbled paving with a brush.

Sweep clean first.
Mix up with a couple of cups of powder, 500 mls malt vinegar, and hot water to dissolve it.

Use a hard brush to give it a good scrub.

Leave it for a couple of hours, at least 1 hour, hose it down.

Worked well here, didn't kill the grass. Killed some weeds in the cobbling, which was a good thing.

Just registered it's a pressure hose, that should do the job without any pre treatment.

Absolutely, no need for chemicals.

Pressure wash then treat with Wet and Forget

L3ThirtySeven · 08/04/2023 17:35

They’re a scam. You don’t need any pretreater or soap or anything with a power washer on stone/brick/concrete.

L3ThirtySeven · 08/04/2023 17:37

If you feel a burning need to deep clean, then dump some fine sand on it (like you buy for children’s sand boxes) and use the scrub brush attachment on the power washer to sand polish the patio.
