To ask what this is on my neck? (Picture)

So for the last few weeks, not sure exactly how long I've felt like I've had a small cut/scab on the back of my neck, didn't think about it at all. My friend asked me a few weeks ago if it was a hicky and I was confused because it definitely isn't. Still didnt think about it, until yesterday my mum asked what it is? She took a picture of it for me and now I'm a bit concerned?

Ringworm. My son had it on his tummy. Contagious, can be treated with anti fungal cream but can take ages to go.

I have a very similar mark to this but on my leg. The doctor told me to treat it for ringworm with canesten cream (the one that's sold for jock itch/athlete's foot/tinea - I'm not in the UK so don't know the UK name for it), and if it doesn't start to show signs of improvement then it's eczema and so put hydrocortisone cream on it. I did that and it turned out to be an eczema patch.

Another one saying definitely ringworm 👍

I have psoriasis too and get random new patches sometimes, it looks like that to me.

Ringworm. Go to the pharmacy and get a tube of Daktarin Gold. Don’t use steroid creams.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 06/04/2023 15:54

Check your scalp too, you'll need special anti fungal shampoo if it's spread there.

AgeGapBbe · 06/04/2023 15:56

That’s ringworm

Fraaahnces · 06/04/2023 15:58

FGS don’t use a steroid on it. It’s ringworm and a steroid could make it worse. Get some OTC tinea (athlete’s foot) cream and use that for 5-7 days. Try and keep your hair off it if you can as well.

I’d get it looked at before sticking creams on it. My husband had patches like that in his face and GP and pharmacy gave him about 4 different diagnoses. He eventually used his work insurance and saw a private dermatologist who took one look and said ‘lupus’. How the GP missed that we have no idea as the dermatologist said he showed pictures to several trainer GP’s (he was a professor who taught) and everyone said ‘Lupus’.
