Posting here for traffic.
I started looking for a new job because I asked for a pay rise 2 months ago as others doing the same job are on 2k more than me and I’m always told I’m good at my job by management.
I keep chasing an answer but I get fobbed off (ill get back to you, I’m waiting for the senior manager to confirm…).
Anyway, I applied for a job closer to home but no hybrid working (I work remotely 2 days at the moment). I’ve been offered the job and it’s an extra 4K than I’m on at the moment.

I genuinely love where I work currently because of the people and I’m anxious of going somewhere else and not having the same atmosphere where I am at the moment.

Pros of new job:
Closer to home
More money
Opportunities for progression

Pros of current job:
Great people
Good at the job I do
2 days a week at home

Take the new job

NQOTDarling · 06/04/2023 07:43

New job. Sooner ot later, yhe people in your current job will move on and the dynamic will change.
If it's not a dynamic you like, your working day will be longer and the pay difference will bite!

QuercusRose · 06/04/2023 07:44

I agree with Agent - take the new job. A great atmosphere can change in the blink of an eye (which I have discovered in my own job) and the better opportunities for progression are worth a move on their own.

PooCurtain · 06/04/2023 07:45

New job.

The fact it is taking months to give you an answer shows a lot about the place you are currently working.

Bunce1 · 06/04/2023 07:45

New job.

but don’t he hasty. Tell your current employer about the offer and see what they say? If they offer you more money then get it in writing with a time frame of implementation.

Changingplace · 06/04/2023 07:47

New job, the fact they’ve dragged their heels over the fair rise you’ve requested shows they don’t value you, no matter how much you’re good at your job.

NumberTheory · 06/04/2023 07:50

Assuming you are interested in progressing in your career, take the new job. And even if your current job match the offer when you tell them, take the new job. Your current job don’t value you or they would have coughed up already. You’ll always be lagging there.

Craftybodger · 06/04/2023 07:59

New job sounds good. I would approach current boss and use new job to negotiate a raise, if they don’t agree then take the new job.

ChickenDhansak82 · 06/04/2023 08:01

I'd take the new job.

Sometimes it's time for change.

DustyLee123 · 06/04/2023 08:01

Move. They don’t value you if you keep getting fobbed off.

Crumpetdisappointment · 06/04/2023 08:04

take the new job, you never know that might cause the present job to get their act together,

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 06/04/2023 08:06

New job

determinedtomakethiswork · 06/04/2023 08:18

Tell your boss that you want to give in your notice because you have been offered £4000 more. Put the ball in their court. Say that you will be responding within a set amount of time.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 06/04/2023 08:23

New job recognises your value and they don’t even know you. Old job is fobbing you off AND treating you unfairly.

if you tell old job about the offer, tell them new job has offered 6k more. At least make it worth your while.

also…. Your pros for old job include ‘great people’ and ‘good at what you do’. What makes you think you won’t get those at the new job?

Itsbytheby · 06/04/2023 08:24

Take the new job.

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 06/04/2023 08:26

Agree with other - tell your employer you’ve been offered a job with £5k more and tell them you need to make a decision by x date.

Nicecow · 06/04/2023 08:29

Can you tell them you have a better offer and get them to match it? Personally if I liked the people I worked with I would probably stay, to me that is so important. The people make the place and it's hard to find a place where they're all a great bunch. I also think the remote working makes up for close to home maybe? Something to also consider is if they don't give you a payrise you'll probably start to resent it soon. Lots to think about, but ultimately go with your gut.

My friend was struggling with whether to leave a job or not and someone said
You go to work to make money not to make friends That decided it for her. Your present workplace has treated you badly so you will not be happy there. Gradually your workmates will move on and then you will regret it.

Get a new start with a company willing to pay you properly. I wouldn't even bother letting your present company make you an offer..they had their chance.

Moonshine60 · 06/04/2023 10:42

I'd take the new job. I think your current employers are taking you for granted. Sometimes change is scary but it can be worthwhile.

This is true, but also you spend more time with your colleagues than with anyone else so that is also important. The places I've worked where I liked the people I could handle even when I hated other aspects, whereas when you don't like the people somewhere it makes everything else so much harder. I don't think the people should be the deciding factor because it's true that people will also change jobs, but it should be an important consideration as it really makes a huge impact on how enjoyable the environment is
