AIBU to think that word 'flasher' is part of the problem?

The recent media focus on indecent exposure has made me think about this.

I work with young people and we have some lively debates. I recently asked what the word "flasher meant". Women suggested it meant a man masturbating whilst staring at you and/or moving towards you. Most women aged over 16 had experienced this in real life (we have a local problem) or on line.

Men made a wide variety of suggestions. Many suggested women "flash their boobs/bums" eg one young man recalling his delight at being "flashed" by a group of women on a balcony in Tenerife. Some said that it can be when a toddler shows their bum etc. Some men suggested it was an act of male aggression towards women, but only about 30%.

AIBU to suggest that the word "flasher" suggests a bit of cheeky fun? I wonder if it was consistently referred to as "Indecent exposure/lewd behaviour/sexual harassment intended to harm a woman" it would be understood better by men and women who have not experienced this?

IANBU Flasher is an unsuitably comic/light hearted term for this form of sexual abuse/harassment
IABU It doesn't matter what it is called, that is not part of the problem
