Is it too late to save my face?

I’m 45, have always been quite lax about skin care 😬Dove soap and a moisturiser. I don’t have too many lines (just yet) but have started to notice my face becoming puffier and big bags/puffiness under my eyes 😫it looks terrible.
I’ve decided on a skincare overhaul…any experts out there to tell me if I’m making the right choices?
I've now started using a Nivea cream cleanser for sensitive skin at night with s Nivea night cream and then Tretoin a few times a week. In the water I just use water to clean my face and then use Garnier Vitamin C illuminating moisturiser, followed by a tinted bb type cream with factor 50 in. If in direct sunlight (at the beach etc) I use sunblock factor 50 on my face)
Should I add an eye cream in too at night?
Can my skin be saved/rejuvenated?
What do you all do/use and at what age?

I’m 47 and just use water and then Nivea moisturiser and my skin’s alright. I use the kids’ Organic Young foaming skin cleanser if I need to take off make up but apart from that, that’s it.

Posted too soon, meant to say your existing habits sound fine to me.

L3ThirtySeven · 04/04/2023 22:22

Putting SPF on your face is the #1 best thing you can do.
Other than that, we are all individual and it’s largely what works for your skin.
Puffiness under the eyes indicate sleep deprivation, dehydration and/or allergies more than lax skin care as a root cause.

Cosyblankets · 04/04/2023 22:23

I don't do anything fancy either but I've never worn tons of make up or anything. I'm in my fifties.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 04/04/2023 22:24

Do you drink alcohol? I’ve given up alcohol 3 months ago and made a huge difference.

Peridot1 · 04/04/2023 22:24

If you are using tret you need SPF every day.

Crispynoodle · 04/04/2023 22:25

Not going to lie someone on here recommended this and it actually works for my dark circles which is a miracle because I've had them my entire life! Also Korean collagen overnight masks are very good

I don't do a lot - micellar water for cleansing (Simple eye make up remover for eyes) then eye cream and moisturiser, followed by tinted moisturiser so lots of SPF. Drink lots of water too!

LucyLoopyLu · 04/04/2023 22:26

Keep everything the same but use your factor 50 every day. If you're using tret this is doubly important

Superstar22 · 04/04/2023 22:27

Add in some hydraulic acid and some retinol if you can. Both available from beauty pie for a fraction of the price of the expensive well known brands. The website will also help you think of a routine for the longer term.
drinking lots of water, reducing alcohol and getting sleep and exercise will also help, you’re definitely moving in the right direction

LucyLoopyLu · 04/04/2023 22:27

You won't be using enough BB cream to get the SPF rating it says on the bottle. Use your separate sun screen first

ladyofshertonabbas · 04/04/2023 22:29

Not too late, loads you can do. The Ordinary will have products for you, inc caffeine eye cream. Maybe a lighter cream around the eyes- Simple brand?

think puffiness comes from within, sadly. Factors like exercise, diet, hydration, heating etc drying the eyes, sleep deprivation, booze. I’m puffy. I hate it. Heating being in less has helped.

HopelesslyOptimistic · 04/04/2023 22:30

A high.dose of vitamin C during the day. A good retinol at night. An acid base AHA every 3 days. Factor 50 on your face/neck every day. Good cleanser x 2 per day. AM/PM. 3 litres of water a day should help.

Nimbostratus100 · 04/04/2023 22:30

nothing is going to have a long term effect, so it doesn't really matter what you have or have not before.

(except tretinion, which disrupts your DNA, and I cant think why anyone would deliberately do that for no reason other than vanity)

Is it too late to save my face?

In a world where people suffer from major facial injuries and acquired facial differences I think you're exaggerating a bit.

TellHimDirectlyInDetail · 04/04/2023 22:43

I saw a post a while ago on here that said she was doing something like a 6 product skin regime but just got sick of it and stopped all of them and after a couple of weeks her skin was better than before using them. The products seemed to build up a need for them, like your skin was temporarily depending on them.

I use an oily cleanser to take my make up off and always use E45 before I put my foundation on and that's it.

TeenLifeMum · 04/04/2023 22:55

I’ve actually just gone back to dove soap age 40. I love the no7 boots range for moisturisers (but I’m so allergic to so many things I know I’m safe with no7, but I really like it).

How does tretinoin disrupt your DNA? Sounds worrying

Butteralwaysmeltsaway · 04/04/2023 23:02

Dove soap, moisturiser and Aldi rose oil daily.

Rarely wear make up, told I look at least 10yrs younger than I am.

It's all in the genes.

FFS there's always one 🙄🙄

shivermetimbers77 · 04/04/2023 23:08

I would say if you’re on tretinoin keep everything else really simple and gentle, particularly if you’ve just started using it.. use spf50 and a decent moisturiser and that’s it.. build up the tret very slowly , and don’t use around the nostrils or lips as it can cause serious dryness and peeling. Really don’t bother with any of those 21 step routines you see on TikTok: keep it simple!

Cnidarian · 04/04/2023 23:10

Tretinoin does not disrupt your DNA.

Hyaluronic acid, not hydraulic acid, good for hydration.

Don't use retinol and tretinoin, retinol is just a weaker version of the latter.

Your new routine is good, but use the proper sunscreen every day not one in a moisturizer, you probably aren't putting enogh on.
