Did I do the right thing? I reported a DV scenario to the police

I contacted the police last week for some advice. I know for definite that a 15 year old boy is being verbally and physically abused by his mother. She has been screaming at him in public, hitting him in public, calling him C and F words in public. He filmed or recorded at least one such onslaught and showed his father, who has not challenged his wife about this (he was afraid of losing his son) and it has been going on for several years.

I was unsure if I had done the right thing or not. The police asked me for some information and assured me I would not be outed. I now know that the police paid them a visit on Saturday, the boy was out. He had recently been on a DofE Award Scheme at the time and his mother phoned him screaming and shouting at him whilst he was there.

The wife screamed blue murder at her husband, after starting to do so in front of the police, after she had been drinking. She then drove off to her parents and he can't get hold of her. She is refusing to answer the phone. So are the inlaws.

Have I done the right thing?
WWYHD?

This isn't DV - it's child abuse. You've done the right thing!

CheezePleeze · 03/04/2023 22:03

Seriously?

Like we're all going to say you did the wrong thing?

It happens. Keep your nose out gets said sometimes.

But what difference would that make to you?

EstrellasPride · 03/04/2023 23:01

You did the right thing. And the police have seen her behaviour now. I wish someone had spoken up for me when I was a child.

Absolutely you did the right thing.

That poor kid, an abusive mother and a father willing to turn a blind eye rather than going to court & fighting for sole custody and taking that child somewhere safe.

SheSaidHummingbird · 04/04/2023 00:13

She drove after drinking?

Kerfuffler · 04/04/2023 00:25

The police just watched her drive off after drinking?

No I think it was after they'd left.

I think he did nothing because he thought the courts favour the mother and her family has money.bi don't mean he'd stay with her for money, she has a low level job but more the influence.
