Shop small?

A small independent cafe I go to has just posted - don’t be a fool and shop small.

I went there on Saturday and one piece of cake and tea cost £10. As much as I’ll continue to shop local and small, sometimes it’s just not feasible and people shouldn’t feel guilty for it.

aibu or do you shop small?

I shop small and I am also a small shop, but that cafe sounds like it's ripping people off and won't be doing themselves any favours.

I've not heard the phrase before. Does it meant choosing independent shops (or small local chains) rather than the big chains?

In which case, yes I've been doing that for ages (anti-globalisation movement has been going since the late 90s, ditto concern about food miles, and also ethics of supply chains)

But I'm not going to spend ridiculous amounts!

FourEyesGood · 03/04/2023 19:24

Are you sure you weren’t overcharged? That’s a ridiculous price for one tea and one piece of cake.

Yellowrosesmakemehappy · 03/04/2023 19:25

That sounds extreme, how much was the tea and how much was the cake? Was it a pot of tea?

I thought this earlier.

We have a lovely deli which I’d like to see stick around. Tarragon got subbed from my Tesco order so I tried in there.

But it was a fiver (yep, £5) for a small bunch. So we’re having Lidl parsley chicken instead tonight!

I shop small quite a lot, but sometimes large chains are able to offer much better prices (obviously!) which can sway me when it comes to huge purchases. Love an independent butchers / bakers etc
