If I were a head teacher I would ban any photos and filming during these shows. It's ridiculous and it never looks good afterwards.

Can't people just sit back and enjoy the live event?

Its banned in quite a lot of schools now isn't it? You can pay an extortionate fee to get your little one's play on tape/dvd etc.

Spidermama · 13/02/2008 20:25

I don't want to. I think it's a live event and as such it doesn't transfer. I can't help feeling people are just unable to enjoy live events these days.

My dh is an actor and he gets infuriated that people of a certain age won't or can't refrain from texting during the performance.

DD was in yr 7, and helping out with the showing around of prospective children and parents. One parent (someone I know actually) videoed dd's entire presentation, every class room and all the other kids. WHY, why would you do that, especially when your husband and child are there with you. To say it freaked dd out is an understatement.

alfiesbabe · 13/02/2008 20:45

Some people dont live life, they just video it dont they?

ZippiBabes · 13/02/2008 20:46

at texting in the theatre

i was thinking how people do this when i was at a gig on saturday it was bit like seeing a band and a 100 youtubes simultaneously

ZippiBabes · 13/02/2008 20:47

but in that context it seemed quite fun

ZippiBabes · 13/02/2008 20:48

and actually i think some were phones

Spidermama · 13/02/2008 23:25

spot on alfiesbabe. So true.

I rather admire them being able to hold a camera aloft for so long and not get camera shake .

I get a copy of whatever production it was from a fellow Mum the next day .

Reallytired · 14/02/2008 09:23

The school I work at bans parents videoing their shows and gets someone in professional to video it. The have about three cameras perched around the hall and the films from the cameras are mixed together to give a professional result. The school charges £15 and some of the money goes to school funds.

I've seen parents crouch on the floor between seats to get a vantage point so they had chair legs at the sides of their film. standing at the back get a much better picture and doesn't tend to block anyone.

i think an impartial video made by an outside person would be best but parents probably don't want to pay the going rate.

2shoeswithheartson · 14/02/2008 09:53

I try to video loads. i did dd's xmas play. i was very lucky as I had a front seat so I was not in the wasy. i then sent a copy to the nice mum who found me the seat
dd has cp and loves watching herself and her school freinds on "tv". the school used to do it then stopped. so amd glad they let us do it.

Syrupent · 14/02/2008 10:42

I can't believe anyone actually gets a decent film. Unless you can get into the first row you can barely see your own DC (unless they have a star part- mine never have). I have never had my view made even worse by cameras though. What annoys me is the reservation of the front row (or 2) for 'dingnitaries'. Typically these include vicars, governors and local politicians, many of whom don't have kids in the school anyway.

greyskythinker · 14/02/2008 10:47

I thought schools had banned this sort of thing for child protection purposes? Loads of schools near us have - not allowed to take photos or video.

SixtyNiner · 14/02/2008 10:51

I videoed DDs Christmas play but stood to the side. Made sure I wasn't in front of anyone else. Reason was DH couldn't be there- also wanted to show my parents who live in a different country.

violetskies · 14/02/2008 14:56

Fair enough, but would you video the walk around of a prospective school ... no, I thought not. That, would be just plain weird.

littleboo · 14/02/2008 14:58

is it annoying, however at my ds1 christmas concert held in the abbey we were at the back and couldn't see anything - until one of those annoying aparents held up the camera- then we could actually see it all through his screen,,haha.

flowerybeanbag · 14/02/2008 14:58

I went to a concert a while ago, it was really good but I was astonished at how many people watched it through their phone...

2bulletsformyvalentine · 14/02/2008 15:14

violetskies that is just plain weird and am suprised it was allowed

as i often say to ds, who is 3, hate is a very strong word

but gosh, yes it p*s me off, especially when the kids are tiny and distractable

LieselVonTrapp · 14/02/2008 15:56
