..to hate eBay?

I know I am being unreasonable, but.....have been looking for a particular bunny rabbit comfort blanket from Mothercare ever since DS was about 4 months (he's now 2yrs) and Mothercare unhelpfully discontinued it. He has one which is rapidly falling to bits and he leaves it in increasingly inventive places, and I'm petrified of losing it, as he won't sleep without it.

Two have come up on eBay since I've been looking, and both times someone has outbid me in the last ten seconds leaving me no time to do a counter bid. I know that's how it works, but at least in real life auctions the auctioneer gives everyone time to make their bids. And I know I should have put bigger bids in, but on the last one i was highest bid at £38, had put in £70 to be safe, and someone bid £72 at the last second.....

so just wanted to vent a bit of frustration.....chances of another one coming up are slim, to say the least!

anyone got a Mothercare bunny blanket comforter?

Yes just tell him the washing machine ate it, thats what we did.
He kept looking in the washing machine for a couple of weeks but seems to have forgotten all about it now. We have kept the disgusting chewed thing though along with a pic of him chewing it in his sleep so that I can be Monster In Law and show it to any girls that get too close to him in the future

i understand a child being attached to a blanket-idon't understand your whimsy finances - £70. sorry but my wee one is a champion chucker shoes/toys/taggies/etc i don't lose sleep/money i buy same price alternative if wee one really distressed.

don't mean to be unkind but repeatedly you will, experience lost misplace items, hurling money is not necessarily the solution

why dont you email the seller t oask if the transaction was actually completed?

There is always the possibility that the buyer had ebay fever too and regrets it.

PatsyCline · 13/02/2008 22:52

There's a fabulous book called "Tatty Ratty" by Helen Cooper which tells the tale of a lost toy rabbit. He has all sorts of adventures and, in the end, turns up looking and smelling very different. It's a lovely book to help to prepare little ones for inevitable losses.

bracingair · 13/02/2008 22:53

not that i actually recommend buying one! The loss/breakeage of the bunnny might be the much needed weaning point in the future - i know some -ought-to-be-too-big-for-this people who still have their comforters!

LittleMy34 · 14/02/2008 07:45

Thanks PatsyCline, I'll look out for that book - let's hope it's not on eBay!

Desiderata/scottishmummy - that's my whole point, I have no idea what came over me with the £70 - that's why I hate eBay, it makes on do strange things. I know, you know, we all know it was a ridiculous price and I'm lucky someone out there was more ridiculous than me. I can only plead hormones/madness/ebay fever.

anyway, enough now. off to find a bit of old rag and call it Bunny.

Why not just set up a snipe?

Then you don't get caught up in a fever and end up bidding higher than you meant to. Only takes minutes to set up and you don't pay for the first 3 you do. (The cost per snipe usually is only around 10 cents or something)

My nephew had a comforter and his Mum bought a spare. He now just carries both about with him.

LittleMy34 · 14/02/2008 12:45

yes, my sister's little girl has two and often likes to have both - you just can't win sometimes, can you?

JODIEhavingababy - loved the link to that story about the laptop - it has to be said, eBay is becoming pretty dodgy!

Am looking into snipes, but i think more healthy might be just giving up eBay altogether....
