I have come to realise that if I don’t teach my child at home even though they going to school they will not achieve their full potential which I’m glad to know and I have started doing. I have always read to my kids but not much maths. Is it too much to expect school and trust them about your child education. Can you please share your experience. I feel the method I have started is just not fair for the kids, they go to school got swimming, dance, martial art and also tutoring by mum. Not much fun time.

Of course your child will do better if you do more at home. It's a bit like a uni student attending lectures but doing no additional work outside of that time. They might pass but they are much less likely to reach their potential. When you look at the size of the curriculum and how much of it is surface level before having to move along you'd understand why it's impossible for someone to reach their full potential without doing some additional work outside of school hours.

I agree OP. The teaching is aimed at “average” level and doesn’t really stretch them. I don’t blame the teachers, it’s just the way it is.

I can’t afford to send my son to a private school, so I do extra with him at home.
