To be immediately massively relieved (bunged up): I’m an idiot!

I’m just venting because my poor DH has heard enough about this. I know I’m a proper idiot.

As advised by my doctor, I was taking 1000mg of co-codamol daily (not allowed brufen). He warned me about constipation but I stupidly ignored him, I’ve taken codeine previously and just got itchy. Oh boy, do I regret that! I’ve spent 2 days bunged up but needing to sit on the loo in agony every 20 minutes. I obviously stopped the co-codamol, I’d rather the pain, and started dulcoease asap. Thank god, I’ve finally managed to go, there’s been blood, sweat and tears.

I am never touching that evil stuff again!

Same thing happened to me last week. It was a sad time.

OliviaPark · 02/04/2023 19:29

Glycerin suppositories are an excellent way of dealing with this!

Fernfossil · 02/04/2023 19:29

Movicol. It’ll shift anything

Groutyonehereagain · 02/04/2023 19:31

I take regular Codeine for pain, it’s an excellent pain killer. I always take Laxidol at the same time and I’m fine.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/04/2023 19:32

I used to take it for period paid and found the same thing!

benten54 · 02/04/2023 19:35

Epsom salts. Whoooo! They are quite a ride but extraordinarily effective!

Weirdly enough the dog is on codeine and didn't poo for three days. Poor animal was miserable. Vet prescribed paraffin oil. No dramas but the next day everything slid out very satisfyingly.

Switchwitch · 02/04/2023 19:37

I used to have tylex for severe pain and eventually I just got to the point I kept it in the cupboard instead of immodium as it was actually more effective!

ImprobablePuffin · 02/04/2023 19:43

Not painkiller related but I get bunged up every time I fly - went to Crete last year and didn't poop until we got back home 10 days later.
I felt like a bloated balloon the entire time!

WeeOrcadian · 02/04/2023 20:15

If you need pain relief (and I assume you do, to be taking that dosage), make sure you drink plenty of water and try some Prunes / lactulose

KingValkyrie · 02/04/2023 20:19

I had a horrible time a few weeks ago, when i had awful sinus pain, then got bunged up from codeine, then took 2 tablets and woke up needing the loo at 4am, and was on the loo for hours. Horrendous. Felt very sorry for myself.

Yetanothernewidentity · 02/04/2023 20:23

Sorry you're all suffering. DM on it at the moment and will, I think, be reassured that she's not the only one !! Hope you're all feeling better soon. Is it ok to ask if anyone else had bloating too? She's a little concerned about it and again would be reassured if she's not the only one.

100% agree.

I was given some after surgery and now I keep them in the house permanently. Much better than lactulose etc, mainly cause you control the ...movement

Confusedmeanderings · 02/04/2023 22:36

You have my sympathy! Due to the immunotherapy I have after breast cancer, I go from totally bunged up to the opposite extreme! I'm tired of constantly worrying about bowel movements!

Lactulose is awesome.

AFloridian · 02/04/2023 22:42

I’ve just taken cocodamol for my back. I take it very rarely due to the constipation issue. I know I will suffer tomorrow but I’m not getting out of bed now for a dulcoease.

KTSl1964 · 02/04/2023 22:48

Glycerin suppository here!!! Great and safe - always works within 20 mins. I’m very wary of laxatives.

Xrays · 02/04/2023 23:15

Yep it really does bung you up. Sadly it’s the only thing - alternating with Tramadol at night - that helps with my lupus pain. So I take fybogel every day and that seems to keep things ticking over!
