To ask how do you know if chicken pox is infected?

DD is on day 5 of chicken pox, she's been crying all day because she says they are sore and obviously really itchy. The blisters look pretty bad but so did my DS's so I know that can be normal. There are a few that have a red circle all around them, probs 2-3cm wide. Those are the ones that she is saying are most painful. Does that sound infected or do they all get redness around them?

Yes they do cause you less worry Flowers they stop getting germs every week for a start!

Good luck with docs today.

Poor soul, my daughter was like this, really severe, lots were infected, GP gave us antibiotics and she improved within a few days but she felt poorly for a few weeks. A sickness bug aswell yes the fluid will be most important, I’d get a GP phone call today really and see what they give to help. I hope she feels better soon and your son and that you avoid it xx

@Thatiswild thank you. My son isn't too bad with it, still running around but just a dodgy tummy. DD is very pale and sleepy and not wanting to get up which is why I'm worried she may be getting dehydrated. Managed to get a phone appt for today so just hoping they call this morning

Try her with ice lollies or freeze some flavoured water ice cubes.
More likely to try those and the coldness numbs the pain.

My DC spits were leaking pus, it was gross. Put them in a salt bath, big handfuls of salt in a warm bath. You can always rinse them off with the shower at the end.

This works. Salt disinfects and it counters itching. I’d try for a face to face appt though as you say she is pale and sleepy, which is worrying.

Oh poor little thing. It sounds like her immune system is low so she is picking up everything. The ice lolly advice is a good one. The other thing my DIL tried when our DGS was not keeping drinks down was to inject tiny amounts of water from a Calpol syringe into his mouth at very regular intervals. He would tolerate that but was refusing a cup.

I will definitely give the salt bath a try this morning. She's sobbing at the moment because of the itching and pain from the spots, I thought they were a bit better this morning but obviously not. I'll try the ice cubes and syringes of water too. Hopefully the dr will call soon

Poor thing. Definitely get her seen. Chicken pox is vile. We had a run of 5 weeks with it as well with 3dc. It was up there with the most stressed I’ve ever been as a parent. Horrible. We should be vaccinating against this shit.
