To spiral worrying about breast cancer and book a GP appointment already?

I noticed the other day that my side was sensitive to touch - under my arm pit and along my rib cage into my breast. I though it was just a pulled muscle.

yesterday it was also a tiny bit uncomfortable when breast feeding, not so much so that I had to stop but just felt a tiny bit uncomfortable.

today the sensitivity is still there and I checked my breasts and can feel a lump in my breast that is tender to the touch too - prob the size of a raspberry. Tbh I haven’t checked my boobs recently :(

I have been breast feeding for just over a year now and my son is in nursery so having cows milk when there so recently dropped from three breast feeds to two - wondering if this has caused a blocked duct. I can’t help but wind myself up thinking I’ve got breast cancer - is it unreasonable to book a GP appointment tomorrow even though I’ve only had these symptoms a few days (I don’t know how long I’ve had the lump as I haven’t checked my boobs for months which I know is bad) Has anyone experienced this? I know it is my anxiety catastrophising to the worst possible outcome but I also can’t stop thinking about it (especially with the pain in my side being a constant reminder) :(

I don’t think it’s being unreasonable at all, it takes them moments to check for you. We are asked to keep checking our beasts and get in touch with the GP if you notice anything different so you’re just doing what you’re told. By all means check tomorrow morning and if it’s gone down a bit (and that seems to reinforce the blocked ducts theory) you could give it a few more days but you’re right to be on it.

Beasts lol. Breasts!!!

Better to get it checked out and it not be serious, than wait and it is.

My opinion is that we don't mess around when it comes to boobs.

Get that appointment booked.

Probably nothing to worry about. But don't waste time, in case it is.

I had a lump which I ignored, like a twat, for 6 months. Eventually got the GP to look at it (during an appointment for something else) and he rushed me through with his referral. Thankfully it was nothing. Apparently I just have lumpy boobs.

Will be thinking of you.

Definitely get checked out for peace of mind then you won't be sat there worrying. I found a lump and saw the GP the next day, I'd have been thinking the worst without knowing what I was dealing with first.

Thanks everyone! I feel like since I had a baby every time it’s something like this I go to the worse sceanario and I’m like omg I’m going to die and not see my baby grow up 💔 Like you all say, it’s prob nothing but always better to get these things checked x

Not unreasonable, I got an appointment because I had a small lump in my armpit, the Dr wasn't worried at all a d said it was probably a cyst, it did disappear eventually. Always good to check, they won't refer you on if it's obviously a blocked duct.

Schnooze · 02/04/2023 17:15

Better safe than sorry. Any breast lump is naturally worrying.

I have been referred to the breast clinic from the GP and have to wait three weeks now. They said they could feel a hard lump/thickening in the breast that is semi fixed. They did say changes are normal at my age - mid 30s and when breast feeding so most likely to be hormonal but best to get it checked out. Even though she has said this, I can’t help worry it is the worst scenario 😢 and really scared - don’t know how to move past this anxiety so it doesn’t ruin these next few weeks of waiting. Doesn’t help that my breast is painful to touch so every time it gets pain it is a reminder :(
