Not sure what to do about work, worried about being sacked

I've been in a new job for around 4 months, it's a part time role in addition to my main job. I wasn't provided training when I started but I've just had an email through with new starter training dates, 3 days in total. One of them is in 9 days ' time which luckily I can make.
They're all within the next 3 weeks, I can make the first 2 dates but not the 3rd. This is because I'm at my other job, and not sure I'd be able to take a day off for this training.

Anyway, our manager has emailed about the training saying all 3 days are compulsory, and if you don't attend your contract will be terminated.
There's no online equivalent sadly.
So I'm not sure what to do really, would they really sack me if I miss one of the days? Just feel quite worried.

I don't really understand. What are your hours and days for this part time job?
And your other job?

If you work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 9-3pm, they can't then book you on a training day on a Friday!

Oblomov23 · 01/04/2023 16:16

I agree with Coraline. You don't do training on a non working day. Ever!

MarchMadness23 · 01/04/2023 16:23

I wouldn't be doing unlimited training in non work (for them) days, fuck that. IF it was external trading they'd had to book on those days, I'd try to attend, if oaid. But if I was employed elsewhere on thise days I'd tell them I wasn't available, on my non working days as I had other commitments on my non working days.

they don't own you!!

@Canyoureadmymind it can be very very challenging to get schedules together for training. The problem too is if you miss one it can be months before there is another.

I'd miss your other job - day off or other option - and make this training. No point giving up something that could be great over a single day!

Just speak to your manager, surely no employer is that unreasonable.

Do they know you have a main job?

Canyoureadmymind · 01/04/2023 16:50

Yes they are scheduled on my non working days, I work on a 2 week rota and they fall on the days I'm not in.
I don't want to ring in sick or not turn up for the other job as it's my last day with the a level students and the last day before their exam, it feels unfair to them to not go in

"they fall on the days I'm not in."

Eh? Then just email manager back and say these aren't your working days?

Canyoureadmymind · 01/04/2023 17:26

They will be aware of that but don't really care sadly. They've done it with meetings in the past, you have to go in even if you're off that day :(

Do you really like this P/T job OP? Or is it that you desperately need the money, only if neither of these apply, I would tell them that you're not available on that day, and then see if they sack you. If you do like/need the job, what about an urgent hospital appointment? With NHS appointments being so few and far between, they can hardly expect you to cancel that, can they?
