Just heard it's the 25 year anniversary. To me it doesn't feel that long (but I don't live in the North). I was just wondering how it feels for people in the North?

25 years ago! Good grief how time flies.
I'm not Irish or NI but I just think thank fuck the madness stopped.

Ahnobother · 31/03/2023 17:07

I grew up in NI. Don't live there any more but I visit family there frequently for long stints.
I voted for the Good Friday Agreement. Proud to be part of history that day and to step forward to a new future.
Really concerned at how fragile it all seems now.
Not because of opposing political sides but because of thuggish elements who hide behind paramilitary labels to keep power over their patches and to recruit drug runners for them and make money.

NI or the North of Ireland, whatever you want to call it is a beautiful place, with many many wonderful people. They all deserve better than being disrupted by thugs and being piggy in the middle to a lot of politicians who have no clue about the history and culture of the place.

I don't know that it's 'over' as such but the difference between now and 20 years ago is phenomenal.

@Chickenkeev apologies to you, I wasn't having a go about what you called it - the thing is I don't mind if people have different views and I just wish everyone could live together. I can be a bit flippant 😁
In the spirit of your original post, there has been huge progress but lots more to do although there's so much social unrest everywhere now and in a way I think it all gets tangled together.
