Water bill is wrong, right?

I'm in debt with water and on a payment plan where they match my payments, great. However I've just got a new bill for £210, whatever.... but I checked my previous bills and it seems to be charging me £210/month every single month.

Is that right?!

Check the meter serial number on the bill against you to water meter, especially if you are in a block or flats. This goes for gas and electric meter bills too. Check every bill.

My bill is around £25 per month (two person household). On that basis, £210 a month would be £185 towards the debt. Even if they were planning on the debt being repaid in 12 months it would suggest that you were over £2,000 in debt. That in itself is the equivalent of not paying your water bill at all for over 7 years.

£210 a month on usage is almost 10 times the amount of daily usage leaking out. I would like to think someone would have noticed that amount of water being lost from the system!

I would suspect that if your bill includes an actual meter reading, the person doing the reading has input the wrong number.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon OP.

Jeepers OP!!!

I pay £43 a month for a 4 bed, 5 person house with showers daily, washing machine, dishwasher.

If you have a leak, I hope they'll refund you any overpayment!

MadeForThis · 31/03/2023 13:45

Have you actually paid £210 a month? Could they actually owe you money?

itsmeimtheproblem · 31/03/2023 13:48

are you able to look back previous bills and see where the high payments came into play? Also be careful if the leak is on your property/boundary the water company DO NOT need to refund the leak payments and you will be responsible to fix the leak. Have you been submitting water meter readings?

JustAnotherUsey · 31/03/2023 13:55

That can't be right op. There must be a leak in your pipes.

I had this in an old home. I called them up and they agreed that the water use was very high and they came round to check pipes and there was a leak in underground pipes so they replaced them. Bills shouldn't be more than say £50 a month. Current home I pay £36 a month for family of 4

CreaturesAreSleeping · 31/03/2023 14:09

Surely that's simply the unpaid balance that you still owe them and they're showing it for each month.
You wouldn't be using exactly the same amount each month.

OhmygodDont · 31/03/2023 14:17

Our bill was going to go like that it was a leak. They worked out our usage and wrote off the rest. Good job too since it was their dodgy fittings causing the leak.

Also see if you can get on some sure water type problem. It’s for those with medical needs/lots of children and some on benefits where they cap you even if you are technically metered.

We are capped yet metered due to having three children.

The Op doesnt say they have a meter
Mine is based on rateable value and is about £150 a month

£150 a month?!

Surely a meter would be cheaper?!

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/04/2023 17:04

That's why I asked to see the other parts of the bill. Without context the amount is meaningless.
