This is a more is my hubby being unreasonable... or is he right??

Going away on Monday. One of our group has chicken pox. He says they'll still be contagious on Monday and it's too risky. Another of the party has had the vaccine so only our dc at risk. Might have it already due to close contact.... hubby says it's risky for others too as will spread around in the pool and in parks etc.

All under 3's

Help!!

When did the CP start?

Seeline · 30/03/2023 22:17

It's contagious until the last spots scab over. my DCs took around 7-10 days to get there from first spots coming up and one of them had it very mildly.

poxxypox · 30/03/2023 22:20

Yesterday / today is when it was 'confirmed'

OP posts:
Seeline · 30/03/2023 22:21

Highly likely to still be contagious then if only started yesterday.

mauvish · 30/03/2023 22:22

If you're flying and there are any visible spots, the airline may well stop you boarding.

poxxypox · 30/03/2023 22:22

No not flying, uk break.

Just reread your message. It's not "only your DC" who's at risk; it's everyone else you come into contact with, especially anyone who is elderly or immunocompromised.

Your DD is probably in the incubation period right now and may well spring the rash between now and Monday!

I don't think your OH is being unreasonable. I do think you need to look at fallback plans for this holiday.

poxxypox · 30/03/2023 22:25

@mauvish I agree. Apologies for poor phrasing

The person with chicken pox can’t go.

poxxypox · 30/03/2023 22:28

@Wolfiefan that's what dh says

No way can they go away. Their scabs won't have healed over. It's really selfish to just be thinking of your own party. Has covid taught you nothing. Really rude to everyone else. You could ruin their holiday.

thegrain · 30/03/2023 22:30

hubby says it's risky for others too as will spread around in the pool and in parks etc. He's right. I don't know why you can't see its not just your group affected by this.

suzyscat · 30/03/2023 22:33

We had this before a holiday where one of our kids got it and the other was like a ticking time bomb. If they got it at the last possible point we'd miss our holiday. Luckily they caught it after a stressful week and a bit and had fully scabbed over. There's no way we'd have taken them if we weren't satisfied they were no longer contagious though. Such rotten luck.

Mumma · 30/03/2023 22:33

Hubby isnt wrong. Imagine it caused someone to become very unwell...

SingingWaffleDoggy · 30/03/2023 22:33

He’s right. If the spots are just coming out now it’s highly unlikely they’ll be scabbed over and dry by Monday.
Anecdotally, 2 weeks seems to be the incubation period before you see spots so yours might be still to come

Season0fTheWitch · 30/03/2023 22:42

CP person can't go, simple as.

I can see, I was just presenting what he had said.

I've already said I'd worded it poorly.

If your child contracted it today then they won't get symptoms..be infectious.. for around 12 to 14 days

MissHoollie · 30/03/2023 22:52

The child who has it now cannot go on Monday 100percent not

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 30/03/2023 22:55

They won't know until monday. My daughters chicken ppx were done and scabbed over in 5 days, but she didn't have many and only 1 wave of spots. My son had loads more, and about 3 waves of spots so took 8 days for them all to scab

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 30/03/2023 22:56

Absolutely not. Have you even looked up NHS advice on this?

Your DH is right.

Unfortunately it isn't great. Only says no school/nursery for 5 days. Doesn't say much else about avoidance of others.

To be clear if my child had spots I wouldn't be take them. I won't be now either tbh

The person with CP should be staying away until the spots crust over which is normally around 5-7 days.

Seeline · 31/03/2023 09:02

You'll need to stay away from school, nursery or work until all the spots have formed a scab. This is usually 5 days after the spots appeared.

This is the NHS advice. Definitely have to wait until all spots have scabbed over. Spots tend to come in waves so it will be 5 days from the final lot of spots. Mine had spots appear for the first 5 days or so.

I agree, they shouldn't go.
