To wake up from a dream where I've committed a crime and covered it up

phewimawake · 30/03/2023 21:05

First dream like this was last week, I actually woke up trying to remember what awful thing I had done (capital crime) and where I had hidden the evidence. It was so so real, like I'd actually buried (literally) some memory so deep I'd actually forgotten but had just been reminded. Like a name on the tip of your tongue feeling only ghost like.

I can invoke the feeling at any point now, like a terrible dread, if I recall the dream. I've tried doing this and really sensing what comes up but it just gets worse and feels more real.

I've googled it and it seems to be related to change / being under pressure. That said I'm a bit haunted and am doubting myself.

AIBU to just ignore it, or does anyone have experience of if this 'means something' or what to do?

AINBU - it'll pass

I've not told anyone irl. Thanks Mumsnet

Omg these dreams are just awful! I've only had it a few times in my life but they're terrible.

I've had this recurring dream too - body is under concrete, under a shed but now that shed is being demolished. Thought it was just me!

We may be accomplices ... Confused

Wonder if there's a correlation with those of us who watched the Jordache storyline on Brookside as teens Grin

You probably murdered someone in your past life and you’re remembering snippets when you’re in an unconscious state ie sleep.

Oooh I like that theory Grin

whumpthereitis · 31/03/2023 08:03

…any tips you want to share though?

shmiz · 31/03/2023 08:04

yes !!!
in my dreams I have murdered and hidden bodies !!!
really unsettling dreams but just dreams !

Rubyupbeat · 31/03/2023 09:39

@PeachPiePrincess I dream the same type dream, that I have cheated on my husband (I just know this, there is no sex) and I am devastated, I know I have to tell him too.
I wake up and the relief is phenomenal.

fairgame84 · 31/03/2023 09:48

I've had this. It's awful because it feels so real.
I put it down to watching too many crime shows on Netflix.

I dream that I've murdered someone and disposed of the body more often than I feel comfortable admitting. The relief when waking is almost euphoric.

There probably is reason behind it, but unless something is a nightly theme then I'd probably ignore it.

Me too, I've had dozens of dreams about killing someone and having to dispose of the body.

Very common apparently!

MatildaTheCat · 31/03/2023 09:57

I’ve had a very similar dream when I suddenly remembered that is previously killed someone (who?) and hidden the body rolled in a rug behind the shed at our old house.

I woke in a cold sweat and honestly couldn’t entirely be sure it wasn’t true. It sounds absurd but the only reason I could be totally sure was the fact that it was a tiny gap behind that shed!

Awful feeling to have dreams that are so convincing. I’ve since graduated to sleep paralysis which is a whole new treat.

That's exactly what I thought too - flashback to a past life.

Tubbyinthehottub · 31/03/2023 10:04

I've had loads of dreams where I've killed someone, sometimes accidentally. Usually the overriding feeling while I'm dreaming is concern over the shame and embarrassment that everyone will find out when I'm in the papers and court.

Sleep paralysis - isn't it just. Terrifying

You were bad in a previous life and are being punished Halo

I have that one too. Horrible.

Rasputina · 31/03/2023 10:24

I used to have recurring dreams that I'd murdered several people and buried them in my parents' garden, and the police were closing in. Used to wake up in total panic thinking it was real for a few seconds!

nuttynet · 31/03/2023 15:02

Ive had this. Ive had a few in my life. First time as a teenager

I wonder if men get them?

Us women are always feeling guilty for something

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 31/03/2023 15:06

I used to have this a lot. Sometimes I had the body in a suitcase and was desperately trying to find somewhere to hide the corpse. 😟

nahnahnahnahnahnah · 31/03/2023 15:10

This is a recurring dream, all my life. Ever since childhood.

I’ve killed a person, or people and hidden the bodies.

A variety of things happen - I have to move the body or body parts somewhere else, some of the body parts have become exposed and I am worried about someone finding them, I am worried that I am about to be found out and I will go to prison.

I am never concerned about the bodies or who I’ve killed, just about them being discovered and getting caught. The feeling of dread in those dreams is awful.

I can sometimes smell the rotting corpses.

I’ve had these dreams for as long as I can remember. I’ve lived a very stressful life though, with awful things happening since I was a small child.

illiterato · 31/03/2023 15:12

All. The. Time. Basically the dream is that I'm in my childhood house and I'm trying to hide a body (dont know who) that I know i've killed and the police are coming up the drive. I always try to stuff them behind the hot water tank and cover them with swim towels

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 31/03/2023 15:14

I have this as a reoccurring dream but I’ve never committed the nursed, I just get roped in to covering it up. I guess it’s a stress dream and it’s horrible!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 31/03/2023 15:14

*murder not nursed 🙈

phewimawake · 31/03/2023 17:30

Wow Confused so many of us!?

Amazing shares, thank you.

Do I feel less weirded out? - no.
Do I feel less worried and more curious? - oh Yes

Hope this chat has helped someone else too. The chemistry of emotions is so fascinating. FlowersFlowers to those with sleep paralysis.

Been thinking about the previous life suggestions - but more from an inherited angle...

This whole experience maybe links into when I do breathwork as part of somatic healing, when it gets all emotional the phrase "I'm so sorry" always comes up. It feels so deeply ingrained, not mine but in me. Maybe it is an echo of a relative's or ancestor's deed.

Lol that I'm not alone in needing to actually think back and check when I'm awake-is there a body in the car? It feels so very possible, even now!

To think that these bonkers dreams are a small taste of what the true burden of guilt feels like. Sorry for anyone living with that in this life.

And of course, sweet dreams everyone x
