Not an AIBU but posting for traffic. Has anyone as an adult developed a tic out of nowhere? As in head jerking and face twitching? If so was there a cause and did it go?

my DH developed face twitching in his 40s. no history of it as a child or throughout earlier adulthood.

it's almost daily - about 4 days a week but more pronounced when he's very tired or having a stressful few days in a row.

he's had it a few years and we aren't sure what, if anything could alleviate it or significantly control it without medication.

he's paranoid about it but i've seen people with worse over the years.

I developed what could probably be considered a mild tic which was twitching the end of my nose. I have a 4. Month old baby and my DH told me last week he noticed it had stopped/reduced, it had started when I was about 6 weeks pregnant and was almost.certainly due to anxiety/stress

That’s interesting to hear. I started citalopram 6 weeks ago and I wonder if that’s the cause. If I concentrate on the tv or something it doesn’t happen so much but if it’s talked about or I’m upset it’s awful. A full on twitching of my neck and tensing. It’s giving me a headache! I found a glass of wine helped stop it! Drs have recommended weaning off my citalopram to see if it helps.

Hi, I have developed a tic involving nodding my head over and over - I'm in my 40s. It causes me neck pain, back pain, makes me dizzy and I feel so self conscious when I'm out. It actually seems to be at its worst when I'm out of the home, but it's always there in the house too. I do it immediately on waking, so not sure of the trigger. I'm also on citalopram and have been on it for many years, so not sure if there is a link there, but it is interesting that you and I have that in common. If I concentrate really hard on not doing it, I can suppress it, but obviously can't spend too long focusing on that when I have work to do and a family to look after! I hope we find some kind of solution!

I have always experienced anxiety in one form or another and when it's at its worse I can develop a tic. These can be anything from twitching to sniffing to an itch in one random specific area. After some time, possibly weeks they go away and then I don't have any for a few months even years before another one starts again.
