When did you start working and when did you start full-time work?

Also when did you start paying for yourself completely?

I started work at 15 and carried on from there

I was working full-time at 18 and never stopped for long until I went self-employed and now switch between full and part-time.

It seems natural that my child would begin working around the same age, but is this normal for people now?

At 18 I was considered an adult and expected to buy everything for myself. I moved out then and have been independent ever since.

I never got any funding from parents at uni, I thought this was normal then, or is it a new thing to fund grown up children until early twenties?

I started part time work when I was doing my O-Levels, went full time as soon as I’d finished them. Had to give my DM £10 a week ( seem to remember I earned about £60 pw) as soon as the child benefit stopped. Left home before my 18th birthday and paid for myself ever since.

Started at 16 at a local supermarket Saturday and one evening.
Had a PT job when I was in college which increased to full time when I left at 18
Worked FT until in financial type places until 38 when had DD. Did PT for about 6 years now back FT again. Times have changes though I don't think kids expect to work so young

I had a Saturday job at 15 - pocket money stopped then and there. I started work the week after my A levels and left home. So I have been independent since I was 18. Never went back home and never asked for financial support. Went to uni when DC were both at school. After that I worked full time while doing further study and running the house and bringing up the family.

Started working at weekends age 13, fruit picking, potato picking. I remember going to school with hands stained blue/black from blackcurrants.

Then from age 14 waitressing, working in fish and chip shops, cafes, in holidays and at weekends (we lived in seaside resort so loads of seasonal work available), I enjoyed it and always a free meal at lunch time. Had a memorable Christmas when I was 15 working at Butlins, party food ++ and all the champagne we could drink

Left home at 16 to work as a Nursing Cadet, 300 miles away.

Exciting times breaking the rules, there was a 10 o'clock curfew in the nurses home so we'd go back to check in then climb out of window and carry on partying.

Looking back I'm amazed I managed to emerge unscathed, with all the risks I took.
