Staying on at a job after I'd said I was leaving?

It's a part time job I have with A Level students, a few hours per week at a school. Unfortunately it's on a casual basis only so paid hourly for what I do but nothing if it's bank holiday etc.
I initially told them Easter would be my last day (tomorrow) as eventually year 13 will leave and I'll only be going in for an hour a week for year 12 which in terms of transport costs and time would not be worth it tomorrow.
The year 13 exam will be early ish in May and now I'm questioning whether I should stay on at least until their exam, as I do feel like I'm leaving them a bit high and dry and messed them about.
Initially I said I could stay longer if they were able to change my hours (I gave them a month's notice) but they said they couldn't.

So just wondering if I tell them now that I'm able to stay until the exam is over.

I've coincidentally just been offered another part time school job on the same days which pays £4 more an hour, so it would mean not taking this one on.

Just not sure what to do but need to tell them by tomorrow.

Stick to the plan. Go to the new job that pays more.

Fakeplastictrees55 · 30/03/2023 06:53

They did say they wanted me to stay on if I could (though probably because it's hassle replacing me)

Take the job paying more money.

Fakeplastictrees55 · 30/03/2023 06:56

Yeah, I guess it would be silly to not take the new one.
The year 13 wil be without me for 2 weeks (we'll lose days because of the May bank holidays))

can you fit them in for a couple of weeks?

Impostersyndrome · 30/03/2023 06:57

Offer to finish off this one remotely, while taking new one.

Fakeplastictrees55 · 30/03/2023 06:57

I've said to the school I could stay on if they changed my hours, means asking the year 13s If they could come another day in the week. I gave the school one month's notice if not more for this but they just didn't reply.

Nah just take the new job. You gave them a chance.

TookTheBook · 30/03/2023 06:58

You personally are not a charity nor will the world implode if you don't go in again. You're too emotionally involved with the pupils - it doesn't sound like you're leaving them high and dry at all, you've done your bit. Stick to your plan. Go to the job that earns more.

I think I'm just feeling guilty as it's their real exam. When I gave my notice for Easter my line manager didn't even reply which tells me they're pissed off. Maybe I am overthinking it, I guess it's only a couple of weeks extra

OP posts:
Crumpetdisappointment · 30/03/2023 07:09

do they go back after easter?

Fakeplastictrees55 · 30/03/2023 07:10

Yeah I think they go on study leave some time in May

OP posts:
Crumpetdisappointment · 30/03/2023 07:22

but the school havent responded to you,
so not much you can do,
you can offer your time when you can but if they dont get back to you you are stuck

Fakeplastictrees55 · 30/03/2023 07:32

The line manager works in various schools so is rarely in, but I'm there today so I'll try and see if she's in so can talk to her in person. But maybe I should just take the other job.

Sorry to be frank but your line manager doesn't care or they'd make a point of talking to you about it. Take the new, better paying job.

The school deserve as much respect from you as they give you. Which in this instance is precisely zero.

Go to the new job without a backward glance, and they can sit there and think about what they did.

This.

You're right I guess they've ignored 2 of my emails...

They've had 6 weeks to try to put something else into place, e.g. saying 'sarah, can you come on Tuesday lunchtime instead of Monday for 2 weeks' and they didn't reply or attempt to.
